Swim Teams Open By Hosting Tufts,Conn. & Springfield

The Panther swim teams opened up their 2009-10 season by hosting Tufts and Connecticut College on campus. The men fell to Conn. 156-115, while ending up on the short end of a 207-89 contest with Tufts. The Panther women topped Conn. 176-111, while defeating Tufts 176-123. The following day, the Springfield men edged Middlebury 143.5-135.5, while the Middlebury women were 149.5-132.5 winners.

Senior Yu Wang (Beijing, China) had a big weekend for the Middlebury women, winning a pair of events in each match. Wang won the 100 back (1:02.59) and 200 back (2:16.81) on Saturday, before capturing the 50 back (30.31) and 100 back (1:02.62) on Sunday. Also winning twice against Conn. and Tufts was sophomore Katherine Loftus (Madison, Conn.), who captured the 200 free (1:59.39) and the 500 free (5:24.45).

Junior Alyssa Ha (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) was a winner in the 50 breaststroke (33.86) and the 100 breaststroke (1:12.53) on Sunday to lead the Middlebury women.

Leading the Middlebury men with three wins on Sunday afternoon was senior John Dillon (Wellesley, Mass.). The senior was victorious in the 50 fly (23.91), 100 fly (52.84) and 100 IM (55.28). Sophomore Kazu Asaga (Chappaqua, N.Y.) won twice on Sunday, earning victories in the 50 back (26.22) and the 100 back (56.16).
