Men's Swimmers Finish Fourth At NESCAC's

The Middlebury College men's swimming and diving team finished fourth overall at the 2010 NESCAC Championship hosted by Williams. The Ephs won the event with 1937 points, followed by Tufts (1452), Amherst (1352) and Middlebury (1029). The Panthers move up two spots from last year's finish, while breaking seven varsity records at the meet. Middlebury senior John Dillon (Wellesley, Mass.) was named the Swimmer of the Meet, while head coach Peter Solomon earned Coach of the Year honors.
The 400 free relay team of senior Schuyler Beeman (Guilford, Conn.), Dillon, sophomore Bob Divers (Dryden, N.Y.) and sophomore Nick Daly (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) capped the weekend with a win. Their time of 3:01.12 was a new pool, NESCAC, meet and school record.
Dillon led the Middlebury men, winning three different individual championships, as well as a pair of relay titles. Dillon set school records with wins in the 50 back (23.00) and 100 fly (49.32, school record of 48.84 in the time trials), while breaking a pool record with his win in the 200 fly (1:50.21). He also broke the school record with a time of 49.76 in the 100 back exhibition race.
Also earning a win for the Panthers was Beeman, who won the 50 free with a school record time of 20.55. Beeman finished fourth for Middlebury in the 100 free (45.96). The men's 400 medley relay team was also victorious, as Beeman, junior Matt Vukich (Madison, Wis.), Dillon and Daly won the event with a school record time of 3:23.86. The 200 medley team comprised of Dillon, Vukich, Beeman and sophomore Kazu Asaga (Chappaqua, N.Y.) finished third overall in 1:32.93. Beeman, Divers, junior Jay Li (Las Flores, Calif.) and Daly made up the 200 free team, that set a new school record with a time of 1:22.26 in the time trials.
