Swim Teams Sweep Colby, Fall At Bates

The Middlebury swimming and diving teams opened up their second semester with a road meet at Colby. The women came away with a 183.5 to 103.5 win, while the men emerged with a 170-124 victory. The Panthers are back at it on Sunday, taking on Bates. On Sunday, the teams weren't as fortunate as the women fell 175-119, while the men were defeated 152-136.

Individually, junior Jamie Hillas (Woodbridge, Conn.) paced the Panther women with three victories at Colby. She touched first in both the 50 (25.20) and 100 freestyle (55.50) events, while winning the 50 butterfly (26.77). Senior Andrea Tibbetts (Dover, Mass.) also picked up a pair of event victories in the 50 (29.08) and 100 backstrokes (1:01.76).

Senior Ian Mackay (Vero Beach, Fla.) also earned three wins for the men, taking first place in the 50 free (21.90), 100 back (54.78) and 200 IM (2:03.29). Junior Teddy Kuo (Bayside, N.Y.) and senior Skylar Dallmeyer-Drennen (Canandaigua, N.Y.) were each multiple winners for the day. Kuo stopped the clock first in both the 50 (24.75) and 100 fly (54.04), while Dallmeyer-Drennen took home both the 1-meter (206.60) and 3-meter (197.45) diving events.

Hillas once again was a double-winner with victories in the 100 breast (1:05.73) and the 100 fly (58.76) Sunday, while senior diver Colleen Harper (Evanston, Ill.) won both the 1-meter (257.75) and 3-meter (262.30) diving competitions after winning the 1-meter Saturday. First-year Jennifer Koide (Morristown, N.J.) won the 200 breast (2:29.08) after winning the 50 breast (33.37) Saturday.

On the men’s side, first-year Michael McGean (Lincoln, Mass.) paced the field home with wins in the 500 (4:55.52) and 1650 free (16:50.47), while Mackay was first in the 100 fly (51.69) and 200 free (1:46.46). On the diving board, Dallmeyer-Drennen won the 1-meter (257.75) and 3-meter (208.85) events, respectively.
