
Three members of the Middlebury College women’s volleyball team were honored when the NEWVA (New England Women’s Volleyball Association) announced its post-season awards. Senior Jane Handel (Evanston, Ill.) and junior Caitlin Barrett (Medfield, Mass.) were second-team All-Region selections, while Handel and senior Elissa Goeke (Chevy Chase, Md.) were chosen to play in the Senior Classic.
Junior Caitlin Barrett (Medfield, Mass.) has earned New England All-Region honors from the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association), while being named an honorable mention All-American nominee. Junior Julia Gibbs (Houston, Texas) and sophomore Megan Jarchow (Cos Cob, Conn.) were both recognized as All-Region honorable mention selections.
The Middlebury women’s volleyball team saw its season come to an end with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 27-25, 25-18) loss to Cortland State (42-1) in an NCAA Regional final at Clarkson. The Panthers finish the season with a 23-9 mark, advancing deeper into the NCAA Tournament than any team in school history.
With a strong attack coming from all angles, Middlebury hit .297 in its NCAA New York Regional semifinal match against Skidmore College, and swept the Thoroughbreds in three sets, 25-21, 25-16, 25-23, Saturday afternoon at Clarkson University’s Alumni Gymnasium. Middlebury improved to 23-8 overall and advanced to the NCAA New York Regional Final at 4:00 pm on Sunday against the winner of Cortland and Clarkson.
With 10 kills each from Megan Jarchow and Jane Handel, Middlebury College rallied from an early deficit in the first set and then closed out Colby-Sawyer College in three straight sets, 25-23, 25-21, 25-11, in the first round of the NCAA New York Regionals Friday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium on the campus of Clarkson University.
