Handel Is NESCAC Rookie Of The Year - Also Honored By AVCA

Middlebury College women's volleyball player Jane Handel (Evanston, Ill.) has been named the NESCAC Rookie of the Year. The rookie outside hitter also earned a spot on the All-NESCAC second-team after an impressive first year with the Panthers. She also earned AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) New England Rookie of the Year honors.

Handel led the team with 3.55 kills/game, putting her third on the school's all-time single-season list. She ended the year with 327 kills and 265 digs (2.88/game), including 29 blocks and 42 service aces.

Handel had some big matches this season, including a 24-dig effort in a win over Brandeis and 23 kills in a victory over Colby. She recorded 24 digs in a match with Union, with five service aces against Wesleyan.
