Women's Volleyball Opens NESCAC Play

The women's volleyball team opened NESCAC play this weekend as they took part in the Hamilton quad. Following a 3-2 win over Trinity on Friday night, the Panthers came back with an impressive 3-1 win over Connecticut College on Saturday. Middlebury ended its weekend with a 3-1 loss to Wesleyan as they prepare to host their home-opener on Tuesday vs. Union at 7:00 p.m.

At Hamilton, the Panthers picked up a win on Friday night as they battled to a 3-2 three-set victory over Trinity. Senior Lindsay Patterson (Aspen, Colo.) had 13 kills in the match, followed by rookie Jane Handel (Evanston, Ill.) with nine and Barrett with eight. Junior Natalie DuPre (Louisville, Ky.) had 28 digs in the match, Patterson earned 25, while senior Kate Heath (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) had 2.5 blocks in the win.

Middlebury won its third straight match as they picked up a 3-1 win over Connecticut College. Handel (14) and Patterson (12) paced the offense, while DuPre came up big with 31 digs in the win. First-year player Elissa Goeke (Chevy Chase, Md.) had 3.5 blocks in the win, while Barrett earned 36 assists.

Middlebury ended the weekend with a tight 3-1 loss to Wesleyan. Handel had 16 kills, while Patterson earned 14 along with 14 digs. Barrett and DuPre each also had 14 digs in the loss.
