The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today 93 Division III teams (15%) have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2012-2013 season, including Middlebury.

Three members of the Middlebury College women’s volleyball team were honored when the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) and NEWVA (New England Women’s Volleyball Association) handed out post-season honors. Senior Caitlin Barrett (Medfield, Mass.) and junior Megan Jarchow (Cos Cob, Conn.) were a first-team All-Region and honorable mention All-American from AVCA, while being named to the NEWVA first-team All-Region squad. Barrett, along with  senior Julia Gibbs (Houston, Texas) were selected to play in the NEWVA Senior Classic on December 2nd at Babson.

The Middlebury volleyball team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22) win over Southern Vermont (24-7) at an NCAA Regional hosted by Clarkson. The second-seeded Panthers (23-6) will take on third-seeded Clarkson at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The Middlebury volleyball team saw its season come to an end with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-18) loss to Clarkson in an NCAA Regional hosted by their opponents. The Panthers finish the season with an impressive 23-7 record. Third-seeded Clarkson will face fourth-seeded SUNY New Paltz in the regional finals on Sunday afternoon.

The Middlebury College women’s volleyball team will make its third straight and fourth overall NCAA Tournament appearance, when the Panthers travel to Clarkson for an NCAA Regional. The matches will take place Friday-Sunday, November 9-11, with the winner advancing to the NCAA Quarterfinals. The Panthers will take on Southern Vermont Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the first-round, with the winner meeting the Nazareth/Clarkson victor on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.

Four members of the Middlebury College women’s volleyball team were honored when the NESCAC announced its all-league teams. Senior Caitlin Barrett (Medfield, Mass.) was named the Defensive Player of the Year, while also earning a spot on the first-team. Joining her on the first team was junior Megan Jarchow (Cos Cob, Conn.), while senior Julia Gibbs (Houston, Texas) and junior Amy Hart (Kenilworth, Ill.) were named to the second-team.

Middlebury College volleyball player Caitlin Barrett (Medfield, Mass.) has been named the NESCAC player of the week. The senior led the Panthers to their fourth NESCAC Championship with her outstanding play over the weekend. The libero anchored the back row with 5.27 digs per set over three matches, while also picking up three service aces.

Middlebury won its fourth NESCAC Championship with a 3-0 (20, 17, 23) win at Connecticut College in the title game on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers capture their second championship in the past three years, with previous titles in ’97, ’98 and ’10. It was the ninth victory in the past 10 outings for the Panthers (22-6), who received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Middlebury volleyball team advanced to the NESCAC Championship match for the third straight year, topping third-seeded Bowdoin 3-2 (25-21, 19-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-6) in a semifinal contest at Connecticut College. The second-seeded Panthers will take on the host school at noon on Sunday with an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on the line.

Second-seeded Middlebury repeated its effort against seventh-seeded Trinity during the regular-season meeting of the squads in Hartford Oct. 13 by posting a 3-0 victory in the first round of the NESCAC women’s volleyball tournament.  The win propels the Panthers into the semifinals against the winner of the Bowdoin/Tufts first-round match played Friday night.

The race for the top seed in this year’s NESCAC Volleyball Championship came down to the wire, with five teams still in the hunt when play began this weekend. After gaining the upper-hand with a 3-0 triumph over Hamilton on Friday, Connecticut College needed some help from Bowdoin to wrap up home court advantage for the first time in program history.

Middlebury ended its regular season with another NESCAC win, topping Tufts 3-0 (21, 13, 20) in Pepin Gym. The Panthers (19-6, 8-2) have earned the second seed for the NESCAC Tournament and will take on seventh-seeded Trinity on Friday, November 2nd at Connecticut College. The Jumbos (13-12, 6-4) have earned the sixth seed and will take on third-seeded Bowdoin on the same day.

Middlebury picked up a big NESCAC win on Friday night, topping 22nd-ranked Bowdoin 3-1 (25-13, 19-25, 25-21, 26-24) in Pepin Gym. The Panthers (18-6, 7-2) wrap-up their NESCAC regular season on Saturday when they host Tufts at 2:00 p.m. The Polar Bears (24-3, 7-2) see their 12-match winning streak come to an end, as they play their regular season finale at Williams tomorrow.

Middlebury College women’s volleyball player Megan Jarchow (Cos Cob, Conn.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week. Jarchow led Middlebury to a 3-1 record last week, with wins over Wellesley and Brandeis at the Hall of Fame Tournament, where she earned all-tournament team honors.

The Middlebury women’s volleyball team went 1-1 on day two at the Hall of Fame Classic hosted by Smith and Mount Holyoke. The Panthers earned a 3-0 (19, 23, 16) win over Brandeis, before falling 3-2 (21-15, 25-22, 25-18, 22-25, 15-12) to Springfield.

The Middlebury women’s volleyball team picked up a win in their first match at the Hall of Fame Classic hosted by Smith and Mount Holyoke. The Panthers (16-5) earned a solid 3-0 (18, 22, 23) win over Wellesley (23-4) in a match played at Smith. Middlebury returns to action on Saturday when they take on Brandeis at 9:00 a.m. and Springfield at 1:00 p.m.

The Middlebury women’s volleyball team had little trouble with Plymouth State (11-15), topping the Panthers 3-0 (9, 15, 19) in Pepin Gym. The Panthers of Middlebury improve to 15-5 on the season, as they return to action at the Hall of Fame Classic hosted by Smith and Mt. Holyoke Friday and Saturday.

Amy Hart had 16 kills and a .600 hitting percentage, 13 digs, and two blocks to lead visiting Middlebury to a 3-0 victory at Trinity in a match played in Oosting Gymnasium.

Lizzie Ahern posted a match-high 19 kills and Lauren Antion added 17 of her own, lifting Amherst past Middlebury 3-2 win at LeFrak Gym. After racing to a 2-0 lead with victories of 25-21 and 25-19, the Lord Jeffs fell victim to a fierce Panther rally, as the visitors took the next two sets, 25-13 and 25-22.

Middlebury snapped Skidmore's 13-match winning streak, topping the Thoroughbreds 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-20) at the Williamson Sports Center. Skidmore falls to 15-5 on the season, while the Panthers improve to 13-4.

The Middlebury College women’s volleyball team ran its win streak to six straight with a 3-0 win at Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday evening.  The Panthers, who won by scores of 30-28, 25-17, and 25-19, improve to 11-3 on the season, while Colby-sawyer dips to 8-10.

The Middlebury women's volleyball team moved to 5-1 in NESCAC play with a 3-0 (12, 18, 17) win at Hamilton on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers then took on 12th-ranked Cortland, falling to the Red Dragons 3-0 (19, 21, 33).

September 29, 2012

The Middlebury women’s volleyball team earned its second NESCAC win in as many days, topping Bates (7-8, 0-3) by a score of 3-1 in Pepin Gym. The Panthers (10-3, 4-1) have now won five straight matches, the last three coming in NESCAC play.

September 28, 2012

Middlebury improved to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in the NESCAC with a 3-1 win over Colby (7-3, 1-1) in Pepin Gym. The Middlebury defense earned 17 total blocks on the night en route to the victory. The Panthers return to action on Saturday when they host Bates at 2:00 p.m., while Colby visits Williams.

The Middlebury women’s volleyball team fought off a tough Williams squad, picking up a 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-22, 25-20) win over the Ephs in Pepin Gym. The Panthers (8-3, 2-1) return to action on Friday night when they host Colby, while the Ephs (8-4, 2-1) will entertain Bates on the same evening.

Middlebury picked up a pair of wins on day two at the 2012 Bear Classic at the United States Coast Guard Academy. The Panthers topped DeSales 3-1, before earning a 3-0 (25-9, 25-12, and 25-11) victory over Lasell. Middlebury improves to 7-3 on the year and will host three NESCAC contests next week.

Middlebury dropped its opening match to the host school 3-1 at the Bear Classic hosted by  the United States Coast Guard Academy. The Bears, who dropped the first set 25-19, won the next three 25-18, 25-21 and 25-19 to improve to 6-5 on the season.

The Middlebury women's volleyball team began NESCAC play on Friday night with a 3-0 (27-25, 25-23, 29-27) victory at Wesleyan. The Panthers return to action on Saturday when they visit Connecticut College.

The Middlebury women's volleyball team dropped a hard-fought five set match at Connecticut College on Saturday, falling 3-2 (27-29, 25-23, 25-18, 19-25, 15-13). The Panthers return to action next weekend at the Coast Guard Invitational.

Middlebury improved to 4-1 on the season as the Panthers came from a set down to defeat Union (7-2) by a score of 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-15) in Pepin Gym. Middlebury returns to action at NESCAC foes Wesleyan and Connecticut College on Friday and Saturday.

The Middlebury women's volleyball team finished up 3-1 overall at the Endicott Tournament, picking up a pair of victories on day two. The Panthers earned a 3-1 (25-19, 25-8, 22-25, 25-14) win over Plymouth State to start the day, followed by a 3-0 (24, 18, 20) victory over Susquehanna.

The Middlebury women's volleyball team opened up its 2012 season with a split on day one of the Endicott Tournament. The Panthers dropped their opener 3-0 (23, 24, 17) to UMass.-Boston, before coming from two sets down to defeat the host school, 26-28, 22-25, 25-14, 27-14, 15-10.
