Volleyball Cruises Past Colby-Sawyer

The Middlebury College women’s volleyball team ran its win streak to six straight with a 3-0 win at Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday evening. The Panthers, who won by scores of 30-28, 25-17, and 25-19, improve to 11-3 on the season, while Colby-sawyer dips to 8-10.
Middlebury’s junior outside hitter Megan Jarchow led all players with 13 kills on .393 hitting. Rookie setter Kathryn Haderlein collected a match best 32 assists and three aces. Senior libero Caitlin Barrett had a match-high 24 digs. Junior right side Amy Hart chipped in seven kills and 14 digs. Colby-Sawyer was led by Courtney O’Hara who had nine kills and nine digs.
The first set featured 13 ties and seven lead changes. The Chargers jumped out to 9-4 lead before the Panthers came storming back to tie the game at 11-11. From that moment, the spread would not grow larger than three points. Colby-Sawyer had five game points, but Middlebury rallied on every occasion eventually scoring the final two points on a Chargers error and a kill by Hart for the 30-28 victory.
Leading by one at 10-9 in the second set, Middlebury went on a 13-2 run seemingly icing the game. Colby-Sawyer battled back with a 6-1 run to make a game of it, but fell 25-17 after an attacking error.
The third set was close throughout after an opening 5-1 spurt by the visitors. The Panthers closed the game and the match on a 5-1 run to win 25-19.
Colby-Sawyer travels to Springfield, Mass. this weekend for a two-day tournament, while Middlebury travels to Hamilton for a pair of matches with Cortland State and tournament host Hamilton.
