Kogut Appears In Sports Illustrated

Middlebury College hockey goaltenders Kate Kogut (Springfield, Mass.) and Doug Raeder (Needham, Mass.) will appear in the “Faces In The Crowd” section of Sports Illustrated in the upcoming April 10th issue that hits newsstands Wednesday, the 5th. The duo are the 13th and 14th people to represent Middlebury College Athletics in the magazine since 1996.

Women's Hockey Wins NCAA Championship

Middlebury won its third consecutive NCAA title as they picked up a 3-1 win over Plattsburgh in the championship game at Plattsburgh. The national title is the fifth for the women’s hockey program and the 25th for Middlebury College in the last 12 years. The Panthers end their season at 27-2, tying the school record of 27 wins set back in the ’99-’00 season. Middlebury scored goals via the power play, penalty shot and short handed situation in the game.

Women's Hockey Advances to Title Game

The Middlebury College women’s hockey team advanced to the NCAA Division III championship game for the third consecutive year with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Gustavus Adolphus College on Friday afternoon at Stafford Arena in Plattsburgh, New York. The Panthers took a 2-0 lead on goals by Emily Quizon and Shannon Sylvester in the second period and then held off a furious Gustavus rally in the third period to claim the one-goal victory. Middlebury, which improves to 26-2-0, will play Plattsburgh State for the NCAA Division III Championship on Saturday at 7:00 pm.

Quizon Is National Player of the Year, Midd. Earns Four All-Americans

Four members of the Middlebury College women’s hockey team were named to the All-American team by the AHCA (American Hockey Coaches Association). Senior Emily Quizon (Chino Hills, Calif.), senior Kate Kogut (Springfield, Mass.), junior Shannon Tarrant (Brookfield, Conn.) and first-year player Annemarie Cellino (W. Seneca, N.Y.) were all honored. The four players helped lead Middlebury to its third consecutive NCAA title, and fifth national title overall, with a 3-1 win over Plattsburgh last weekend.

Women's NCAA Games To Be Webcast

Both NCAA women's hockey tournament games can be heard live over the internet this weekend. The Panthers take on Gustavus Adolphus at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 17th in the NCAA semifinals at Plattsburgh. The Middlebury College women’s hockey team will makes its third consecutive appearance in the NCAA semifinals when they travel to Plattsburgh this weekend. The Panthers will meet Gustavus Adolphus in the first semifinal on Friday, March 17th, while the host school battles Wisconsin-Stevens point in the second game at 7:00 p.m.

Middlebury advanced to the NCAA semifinals for the third consecutive season after a 4-3 win over Manhattanville in an NCAA quarterfinal match-up in Kenyon Arena. Middlebury will makes its fifth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament on Friday, March 10th when they host Manhattanville at 7:00 p.m. This will be the second straight NCAA quarterfinal match-up between the two schools. A year ago, Emily McNamara scored the game-winner 16:31 into overtime to lift the Panthers to a 3-2 win.

Middlebury won its fourth NESCAC Championship and second straight over Bowdoin with an 8-2 win over the Polar Bears in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers will make their fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament when the pairings are announced Sunday night. Bowdoin will hope for an at-large bid to the tourney.

Middlebury broke up a scoreless tie with three third period goals on its way to a 3-1 win over Colby in a NESCAC semifinal in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers advance to the NESCAC Championship game at 1:00 on Sunday against Bowdoin, a 2-1 winner over Williams. This will be Middlebury’s fourth consecutive trip to the title game, capturing the tournament in ’01, ’03 and ’05.

Middlebury claimed four of six spots on the All-NESCAC first-team, while also boasting the conference player and rookie of the year. In all, five Panthers were honored when the NESCAC released its All-Conference team today. Middlebury is currently preparing to host the NESCAC semifinals and championship this weekend in the Kenyon Arena.

The Panthers will host the tournament for the first time since they hosted the inaugural tourney in ’02. Middlebury broke open a 2-1 game with a pair of third period goals on its way to a 4-1 win over Amherst. The top-ranked Panthers dominated the third period, out shooting the Jeffs 17-4 in the session. With the win, Middlebury clinched the top seed for the upcoming NESCAC Tournament on March 4th and 5th.

11/28/05 - Middlebury College women’s hockey player Annemarie Cellino (W. Seneca, N.Y.) has been named the NESCAC Women’s Hockey Player of the Week.  The rookie netted four goals and assisted on two others as Middlebury picked up a pair of NESCAC wins over Trinity and Hamilton. Cellino had a goal and an assist vs. Trinity, before earning a hat-trick, along with an assist, in the Panther's win over Hamilton.
Cellino and the top-ranked Panthers return to action this weekend when they travel to Amherst and Connecticut College.

11/27/05 - Middlebury out shot Hamilton 35-11 and scored four power play goals to capture their second win of the weekend. Annmarie Cellino scored a hat trick for Middlebury in the 6-2 win, which brings the Panthers to 4-0 on the season.
