Tarrant & Kurtz-Phelan Named All-Americans

Middlebury College women’s hockey players Abby-Kurtz-Phelan (Denver, Colo.) and Shannon Tarrant (Brookfield, Conn.) have been named a first-team All-American by the AHCA (American Hockey Coaches Association). The seniors recently completed their final season at Middlebury, leading the Panthers to their fourth straight trip to the NCAA title game. The duo were part of a senior class that won more games than any other group in school history (110-13-3).

Women's Hockey Falls in NCAA Title Game

Plattsburgh State stopped Middlebury’s quest for a fourth straight NCAA women’s hockey title with a 2-1 victory at the Stafford Arena in Plattsburgh, New York on Saturday. The Panthers, in a rematch of the 2006 title game, held the Cardinals to their lowest goal output of the season, but the top-ranked and undefeated Cardinals (27-0-2) were just too strong in net en route to their first ever NCAA championship. The Middlebury seniors end their careers having won more games than any other group in school history (110-13-3).

Women's Hockey Advances to Title Game

The Middlebury College women’s hockey team advanced to the NCAA Division III championship game for the fourth consecutive year with a 5-1 win over the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point on Friday afternoon at Stafford Arena in Plattsburgh, New York. The Panthers, which improve to 23-3-2, will play Plattsburgh State for the NCAA Division III Championship on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The title game will be a rematch of the 2006 championship that Middlebury won 3-1. UW-Stevens Point falls to 19-7-2 on the season and will play in the third-place game against Amherst at 3:30 p.m.

Women's Hockey Heads To Final Four

Middlebury will make its fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA semifinals after defeating Manhattanville in the quarterfinals for the third straight season. The Panthers will take on Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 16th in Plattsburgh. The host school will meet Amherst in the other semifinal at 7:00 p.m.

Women's Hockey Headed To Final Four

Middlebury will make its fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA semifinals after defeating Manhattanville in the quarterfinals for the third straight season. The Panthers out-shot the Valiants 39-14 on the night, coming away with a 3-1 win. The game was played before a crowd of 755, the largest to ever watch a women’s game in the Kenyon Arena.

Women's Hockey Draws Manhattanville In NCAA Quarters

Middlebury will makes its sixth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament on Friday, March 9th when they host Manhattanville at 7:00 p.m. This will be the third straight NCAA quarterfinal match-up between the two schools, with the Panthers advancing 3-2 in overtime in ’05 and 4-3 a year ago. Middlebury leads the all-time series between the schools, 3-2.

Women's Hockey Drops Title Game In Triple Overtime

Amherst won its first NESCAC Championship as they defeated Middlebury 2-1 in the longest game ever played in NCAA Division III women’s hockey. The triple-overtime game lasted almost 102 minutes, with Amherst goaltender Krystyn Elek making a tournament-record 65 saves as her team was out shot 66-24 on the day. The Jeffs will make their first NCAA Tournament appearance when the pairings are announced on Sunday night, while Middlebury is expected to get an at-large bid.

Women's Hockey Advances To NESCAC Title Game

Middlebury scored three second period power play goals on its way to a 7-2 win over Hamilton in a NESCAC semifinal contest in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers advance to the title game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against Amherst, a 3-2 overtime winner over Bowdoin. Hamilton ends its season at 10-14-2.

Five Panthers Earn NESCAC Honors - Kurtz-Phelan Is Player of the Year

Five members of the Middlebury College women’s hockey team were honored today when the NESCAC announced its all-conference awards. Senior Abby-Kurtz-Phelan (Denver, Colo.) becomes the fourth Middlebury skater in the last five years to earn NESCAC Player of the Year honors (Emily Quizon ’05 & ’06, Angela Kapus ’03). Joining her on the first-team was senior Shannon Tarrant (Brookfield, Conn.), while sophomore Annmarie Cellino (W. Seneca, N.Y.), senior Shannon Sylvester (Randolph, N.J.) and rookie Lani Wright (Reading, Mass.) earned second team honors.

Women's Hockey Set To Host NESCAC Tourney

The Middlebury College women’s hockey team will host the NESCAC semifinals and championship on March 3rd and 4th in the Kenyon Arena. The Panthers will meet Hamilton at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Amherst meets Bowdoin in the other semifinal at 4:00 p.m. The winners meet for the NESCAC Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Women's Hockey Falls To Plattsburgh In OT

Plattsburgh’s Shay Bywater snapped a shot to the top right corner after a nice feed from Danielle Blanchard to give the Cardinals a 5-4 overtime win at Middlebury. The loss snaps Middlebury’s (20-2-2) unbeaten streak at 22 games, with their only other loss coming in the season-opener at Plattsburgh. The Cardinals remain undefeated and move to 21-0-2 on the season. Middlebury returns to action when they host the NESCAC semifinals and finals on March 3rd and 4th in the Kenyon Arena.

Women's Hockey Thumps Hamilton

Middlebury earned a 7-1 win over Hamilton in the NESCAC finale for both teams. The Panthers will host Plattsburgh on Tuesday night before hosting the NESCAC semifinals and finals on March 3rd and 4th in the Kenyon Arena. Hamilton ends the regular season in the fourth place and will host a quarterfinal game on Saturday, February 24th.

Women's Hockey Blanks Trinity

Middlebury extended its unbeaten streak to 21 games as the Panthers blanked Trinity 8-0 in women's hockey action on Friday night. Both teams end the regular season on Saturday afternoon when Middlebury hosts Hamilton and Trinity travels to Williams.

Women's Hockey Game Rescheduled

The Middlebury vs. Plattsburgh women's hockey game scheduled for Wednesday, February 14th has been post-poned due to the weather. The game has been rescheduled for Tuesday, February 20th at 7:00 p.m.

Women's Hockey Skates To 2-2 Tie At Amherst - Clinches Top NESCAC Seed

Middlebury out shot Amherst 41-27, but were only able to muster up a 2-2 tie on the road. With the tie, the Panthers have clinched the top seed in the NESCAC and will host the semifinals and finals on March 3rd and 4th in the Kenyon Arena.

Middlebury broke open a 2-2 tie with two third period goals as the Panthers picked up a 4-2 NESCAC win at Williams. Middlebury out shot the Ephs 44-14 on the night.

Kurtz-Phelan Is Named Player of the Week

Middlebury College women’s hockey player Abby Kurtz-Phelan (Denver, Colo.) has been named the NESCAC Women’s Hockey Player of the Week. The senior scored three goals and added two assists during a 2-0 week for the Panthers. She scored two goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist in a mid-week win over Williams, followed by a goal and an assist performance in a win against St. Anselm on Friday. Kurtz-Phelan leads Middlebury in goals this season with 10 through 12 appearances and is third among all skaters on her team with 18 points (10-8-18).

Women's Hockey Blanks St. Anselm

Middlebury ran its unbeaten streak to 17 games as the Panthers picked up a 3-0 shutout win over 17-2 St. Anselm in the Kenyon Arena. The Panthers return to action on Tuesday at Williams, while St. Anselm visits N.E.C. on Wednesday.

Abby Kurtz-Phelan scored two goals and assisted on another as the Middlebury women’s hockey team earned a 6-1 NESCAC win over Williams. The Panthers are now unbeaten in their last 16 games.

Cellino Earns Player of the Week Honors

Middlebury College women’s hockey player Annmarie Cellino (W. Seneca, N.Y.) has been named the NESCAC Women’s Hockey Player of the Week. The sophomore picked up three goals and two assists to lead Middlebury to key NESCAC victories over Bowdoin and Colby last weekend and extend the Panthers unbeaten streak to 15 games.

The Middlebury women’s hockey team extended its unbeaten streak to 15 games as they picked up a 7-1 win over Colby in the Kenyon Arena. The Panthers scored four unanswered goals in the second period on their way to the win. Middlebury returns to action when they host Williams on Tuesday night, while Colby visits Hamilton next Friday.

Women's Hockey Tops Bowdoin in OT

Abby Kurtz-Phelan took a feed from Shannon Sylvester and converted a breakaway 3:09 into overtime to lift Middlebury to a 5-4 win over Bowdoin. The win is the fifth straight for the Panthers over the Polar Bears.

Panthers Top R.I.T.

Middlebury won its second game in as many games as the #3 Panthers picked up a 3-1 win over #10 R.I.T. in a neutral site game played at Hamilton College. RIT falls to 12-2-0 on the season, while Middlebury improves to 12-1-1.

Middlebury remained unbeaten (11-0-1) its last 12 games as the women's hockey team picked up a 4-2 win at Utica in a non-conference game.

Panthers Blank UMass.-Boston

Annmarie Cellino netted a pair of goals and goaltender Lani Wright stopped all 22 shots she saw to lead the Middlebury College women’s ice hockey team over host University of Massachusetts Boston, 5-0, in a non-conference contest tonight at on the campus of UMass Boston.

Middlebury earned three NESCAC points this weekend, picking up a 4-1 win over Wesleyan today, after settling for a 1-1 tie on Friday night.

Middlebury scored the game’s only goal midway through the second period as they held on for a 1-0 win over Amherst. The Panthers were out shot 28-23 on the night, but were able to come away with the win.

Middlebury improved to 4-1 on the season as the three-time defending NCAA Champions defeated Connecticut College 6-0 in the team’s home-opener. The Panthers scored three second period goals to put the game out of reach, out shooting the Camels 38-10 on the night.

Middlebury Blanks Trinity

The Middlebury women's hockey team improved to 3-1 on the season as they earned a 4-0 NESCAC shutout at Trinity. Karen Levin scored two goals in the victory, with solo tallies from Ashley Bairos and Erika Nakamura. Abby Smith made 13 saves in goal to earn the shutout. The Panthers outshot the Bantams 31-13 on the afternoon.

Women's Hockey Slips By Hamilton

Shannon Sylvester scored with 34 seconds left in the third period to lift Middlebury to a 4-3 win against host Hamilton College at Russell Sage Rink.

The Panther women's hockey team bounced back after an opening day loss to Plattsburgh with a 5-1 win over Williams at the Plattsburgh Tourney. Middlebury out shot Williams 37-26 on the day, with Angie Todd making 25 saves to earn the win.

Women's Hockey Opens With Loss At Plattsburgh

The three-time defending NCAA Championship women's hockey team opened up its 2006-07 at a tournament hosted by Plattsburgh over the weekend. The top-ranked Panthers faced #2 Plattsburgh in the first-round of the tournament, coming away with a 4-2 loss.
