Dumont Named All-American

Middlebury College women’s hockey Randi Dumont (Greene, Maine) has been named an AHCA (American Hockey Coaches Association) first-team All-American. The senior defender recently earned first-team All-NESCAC honors, leading the team to the ’09 NESCAC Championship and a trip to the final four.

Women's Hockey Wins Third Place Game

Middlebury earned its 20th win of the season as the Panthers picked up a 3-2 overtime victory over Wisconsin-River Falls in the NCAA third place game played on campus. With just 12 seconds left in overtime, Heidi Woodworth sent a puck in from the right point, that was deflected in by Grace Waters for the game-winner. Middlebury now has 14 straight seasons with 19 or more victories. The Panthers end the year with a 20-4-4 mark, while the Falcons finish at 20-7-3. All five goals in Middlebury’s semifinal loss to Amherst came on the power play, while all four goals in regulation were also scored on the power play today.

Women's Hockey Drops NCAA Semifinal Game To Amherst

Amherst will make its first trip to the NCAA Championship game after earning a 3-2 win over Middlebury in a semifinal contest played at Middlebury College’s Kenyon Arena. The Jeffs will meet Elmira, a 3-0 winner over Wisconsin-River Falls, in the title game on Saturday night at 7:00. The Panthers will take part in the third-place game at 3:30 p.m. against the Falcons. The meeting was the fourth of the year between the two schools, with Amherst winning both regular season match-ups before a Middlebury win in the NESCAC title game.

The Middlebury College women’s hockey team will host the eighth-annual NCAA Division III Women’s Hockey Championship. The Panthers drew a first-round bye, and will host the semifinals and finals on Friday, March 20th and Saturday, March 21st in Kenyon Arena. This will mark the second time Middlebury has hosted the event, earning a 2-1 win over Wis.-Stevens Point in ’04.

Bloom Is NESCAC Player Of The Week

Middlebury College women’s hockey goaltender Alexi Bloom (Highland Park, Ill.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week for the second time this season. The sophomore goaltender stopped 73 of the 78 shots she faced, a .936 save percentage, as she helped the Panthers win the 2009 NESCAC Women’s Ice Hockey Championship over the weekend. After turning aside 21 shots in a 4-2 win over Colby on Saturday during the semifinals, Bloom racked up 52 saves, including 21 in the second period, in a 4-3 overtime win at Amherst on Sunday for the 2009 title. Middlebury has now won five conference championships.

Women's Hockey Wins NESCAC Championship

Middlebury won its fifth NESCAC Championship and improved to 14-4 in tournament play, as they earned a 4-3 overtime win at Amherst. The loss avenges a pair of regular season losses to the Jeffs, as the Panthers earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Middlebury improves to 19-3-4, while Amherst falls to 21-5-0 and will hope to receive an at-large bid.

Middlebury has advanced to the NESCAC Championship game for the sixth time, defeating Colby 4-2 at Amherst. The Panthers will take Amherst for the NESCAC Championship on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Middlebury outshot Colby 61-20 on the afternoon.

Women's Hockey Players Earn NESCAC Honors

Three members of the Middlebury College women’s hockey team were honored today when the NESCAC announced its all-league teams. Seniors Molly Vitt (Kenilworth, Ill.) and Randi Dumont (Greene, Maine) were named to the first-team, while senior Annmarie Cellino (W. Seneca, N.Y.) earned second-team honors. The three helped lead the Panthers to a 17-3-4 record as they head to the NESCAC Championship weekend at Amherst this weekend.

Women's Hockey Ends Regular Season With A Win

Middlebury ended its regular season with a 4-1 win over Hamilton in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers return to action next Saturday when they host Williams in a NESCAC Quarterfinal game at 1:00 p.m. Hamilton will also be in quarterfinal action on Saturday, when they travel to Amherst for a 7:00 p.m. contest. Middlebury controlled play, holding a 47-8 shots advantage in the game as they won their third straight contest.

Middlebury outshot Wesleyan 48-11 on its way to a 7-2 win over the Cardinals in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers increase their all-time series lead to 37-0-2 over the Cardinals, as they return to action on Saturday when they host Hamilton at 3:00 p.m. in their regular season finale. Wesleyan wraps up its season at Williams on Saturday.

Women's Hockey With Second Straight 6-3 Win

Make it eight straight games (7-0-1) without a loss for the Middlebury women’s hockey team as they picked up their second straight 6-3 win over a NESCAC school from Maine in Kenyon Arena. After a win over Bowdoin last night, the Panthers defeated Colby today, moving to 11-1-3 overall, 8-1-2 in NESCAC play. The Mules fall to 7-7-3, with a 4-5-2 mark in NESCAC action, as Middlebury takes both games from Colby this season after a 3-1 win in Maine on January 10th.

The Panthers sweep the season series with the Polar Bears, after an 8-1 win in Maine on January 10th. Middlebury moves to 10-1-3 overall, 7-1-2 in NESCAC play, while Bowdoin falls to 3-10-1, 1-8-1 in the league.

The Beacons fall to 7-6-1 on the season, while the Panthers run their unbeaten streak to six games and improve to 9-1-3.

Middlebury bounced back after a 2-2 tie on Friday night with a 6-1 win over Trinity in the second meeting between the schools in as many days. Fourteen different players recorded a point in the game for the Panthers, as they improve to 8-1-3 on the year. Trinity falls to 7-3-2 with a loss and a tie on the weekend.

Middlebury outshot Trinity 48-14, but was forced to settle for a 2-2 tie with the Bantams in Kenyon Arena. The tie is the second straight between the schools after a 2-2 tie last January. The two teams meet again tomorrow for a NESCAC match-up at 3:00.

Vitt Earns Player Of The Week Honors

Middlebury College women’s hockey player Molly Vitt (Kenilworth, Ill.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week. Vitt earned six points with two goals and four assists over a pair of road victories for the Panthers last week. On Friday at Colby, Vitt scored the game-winner in a 2-1 decision over the Mules, while scoring a goal with four assists during Saturday’s 8-1 win at Bowdoin. She currently leads the NESCAC with 1.33 assists/game and is second with 1.78 point/game this season (4-12-16).

The Middlebury women’s hockey team scored four first period goals and never looked back on its way to a NESCAC road win at Bowdoin, 8-1. The Panthers held a 37-22 shots advantage in the game as Lexi Bloom (18 saves) and Becca Shaw (3 saves) combined to earn the win. The Panthers, ranked third in the latest USCHO.com Division III poll, improve to 7-1-2 this year, while the Polar Bears fall to 1-7-0 overall.

Middlebury scored a shorthanded goal just 1:08 into overtime as the Panthers came from behind to beat Elmira, 5-4. Annmarie Cellino and Anna McNally worked a great give-and-go, with McNally netting her first goal of the year in her first game. The win is the second for fourth-ranked Middlebury over third-ranked Elmira this season.

Women's Hockey Blanked By Amherst

Top-ranked Middlebury suffered its first loss of the season as they fell 3-0 to fourth-ranked Amherst in the Kenyon Arena. The Panthers fall to 4-1-2 on the year, while the Jeffs improve to 6-0. Middlebury is now off until January 3rd, when they host Elmira at 7:00 p.m. The shutout is the first suffered by the Panthers at home since a 1-0 loss to Bowdoin in the season-opener on November 21st of ’03.

Middlebury remained unbeaten on the season as they earned a 1-1 tie with Connecticut College in the team’s home-opener in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers outshot the Camels 50-11 on the night, but were able to get just one shot past Lauren Mellen, who made 49 saves on the night.

Bloom Named Player Of The Week

Middlebury College women’s hockey player Alexi Bloom (Highland Park, Ill.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week. Bloom stopped 76 of the 79 shots she faced, a save percentage of .962, during the Panther’s 1-0-1 weekend at the Panther/Cardinal Classic in Plattsburgh. Bloom made 40 saves in a 2-1 win over top-ranked Elmira on Friday evening, then turned aside 36 shots in a 2-2 tie with #2 Plattsburgh St. on Saturday.

The Middlebury women's hockey team capped off a solid weekend at the Panther/Cardinal Classic in Plattsburgh with a 2-2 tie against the host school. The Cardinals won the shoot-out to capture the tournament title, as #3 Middlebury defeated #1 Elmira and tied #2 Plattsburgh on the road this weekend.

The Panthers entered the game ranked third in the early going, while Elmira was in the top spot. The Soaring Eagles held a 41-22 shots advantage in the game, but Lexi Bloom earned 40 saves to pick up the win.

Melberg Earns Player Of The Week Honors

Middlebury College women’s hockey player Maggie Melberg (Woody, Creek, Colo.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week after her first game as a Panther. The rookie tallied two goals and added an assist in Middlebury’s 5-1 victory over Williams on Saturday. Melberg opened the season for the Panthers with a shorthanded goal midway through the first period, followed by a power-play score in the early moments of the second. Her assist came while Middlebury was shorthanded midway through the second.
