The Middlebury College women's lacrosse team has never had a losing season. The squad has won five of the last 11 NCAA Championships, including four perfect seasons ('99, '01, '02, '04). Middlebury has appeared in the national semifinals in '94, '95, '98, '00, '05, '06 and '07, while taking part in the title game in '96, '97, '99, '01, '02, '03 and '04. The Panthers have also hosted and won each of the first seven NESCAC Championships. Over the past 15 seasons the team boasts a 253-29 record, ranking in the top 10 nationally each of those years. The Panthers are recognized as a national power in women's lacrosse, boasting a 51-game winning streak during '01, '02 and most of '03.
The team begins practice in the spring, working indoors or outdoors on the Kohn Artificial Field. During spring break, the squad travels south for a week of practices and games. Upon returning to Vermont, the Panthers jump into their NESCAC schedule, with challenges from some of the top teams nationally. Middlebury fields both the varsity team and a B team for the development of promising young players.
Before NESCAC rules permitted participation in the NCAA Tournament the Panthers appeared in post-season play by advancing to the finals of the ECAC Division III New England tournament in 1990, 1991, 1992, and 1993; and were ECAC champions in 1991 and 1992. Middlebury players have earned 71 All-American honors since 1985. The Panthers have also had the national player of the year in each position area on the field as well as the overall player of the year.
