Softball Players Named All-NESCAC

5/12/05 - Three members of the Middlebury College softball team were honored when the All-NESCAC teams were announced. Senior Lauren Guza (LaCanada, Calif.) was a first-team selection, while senior Megan McCarthy (Winter Springs, Fla.) and junior Lauren Battaglia (Framingham, Mass.) were both named to the second team.

Softball Ends Season At NESCAC Tournament

5/8/05 - At the NESCAC Tourney, Julia Brenta pitched a two-hit shutout and Courtney Bongiolatti had two hits that led to both runs as Tufts topped Middlebury, 2-0. Only one Middlebury runner reached second base against Brenta on the afternoon. She twice walked Panther runners to lead off the second and third innings, but Middlebury could not take advantage.

Softball Drops First Game At NESCAC Tourney

5/6/05 - Junior Julia Brenta (San Anselmo, CA) pitched a two-hit shutout and senior SS Courtney Bongiolatti (Locust, NJ) had two hits that led to both runs as the Tufts Softball team won the first game of the NESCAC Softball Tournament, 2-0, against Middlebury College on Friday afternoon.

Pitching Helps Softball Win Two Against Lyndon State

5/4/05 - Leading 2-1, Middlebury broke open the scoring against Lyndon State with five runs in the bottom of the third inning and raced away with a 12-1 five-inning victory in game one. Game two saw the Panthers pull away from the Hornets in the later innings and win in six innings, 9-1. Middlebury will be in NESCAC double-elimination tournament play later this week at Tufts. The Panthers will be playing the host school this Friday at 2:30 p.m.

Softball Team Heads To NESCAC Tourney - Games Can Be Seen/Heard LIVE

5/3/05 - Tufts University will host the 2005 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Softball Championship beginning Friday, May 6. The Jumbos (7-1 division, 25-6 overall) finished atop the NESCAC East Division standings ahead of runner-up Trinity College (5-3, 15-13). Williams College (7-1, 20-12) and Middlebury College (6-2, 18-8) finished first and second respectively in the NESCAC West Division to earn berths in this year’s tournament.

Softball Earns NESCAC Tourney Bid

4/29/05 - Middlebury clinched a spot in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament by earning a doubleheader split with Amherst in the final league games of the season for the Panthers. The Jeffs end NESCAC play on Sunday with a pair against Williams.

Middlebury Takes Two From Skidmore

4/28/05 - Middlebury broke a two-all tie with a run in the fifth inning to hang on for a 3-2 win in game one and later cruised to a 10-1 victory to complete the two-game sweep of visiting Skidmore. With a 10-game winning streak, the Panthers improve to 17-7 and return to NESCAC West action tomorrow against Amherst.

Middlebury Sweeps Green Mountain

4/26/05 - Middlebury squeaked out a run to earn a 1-0 win in game one, and then exploded for 18 runs in game two en route to a doubleheader sweep over Green Mountain. The Panthers improve to 15-7 on the season, while Green Mountain falls to 9-11.

Softball Team Picks Up Two Wins Against Bates

4/19/05 - Middlebury improved to 13-7 on the season as they took a pair from Bates (6-6). The games were non-league for the Panthers, with Bates competing in the NESCAC east division.

Guza Earns Player Of The Week Honors

4/18/05 - Middlebury College softball player Lauren Guza (LaCanada, Calif.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week. The senior hit .667 in a 5-1 week for Middlebury, which included four NESCAC wins over Hamilton and Wesleyan. In the weekend road sweep, Guza hit .643 with five runs scored, five RBI and a pair of doubles.

Guza and the Panthers will host Bates in a doubleheader on Tuesday (4/19) at 3:00, before hosting Amherst on Saturday (4/23) at 1:00 p.m.

4/17/04 - Middlebury improved to 5-1 in NESCAC play as they swept a doubleheader at Wesleyan. The pair of wins gives the Panthers four NESCAC road wins in two days as they move to 11-7 overall.

4/16/05 - Middlebury improved to 3-1 in NESCAC play as they swept a pair of road games at Hamilton. The Panthers won game one 8-0 in five innings, while capturing a 9-1 win over six innings in game two.

Softball Splits With Castleton

4/15/05 - The Middlebury College softball team split a pair of games down route 30 as they took on Castleton State. The Panthers won game one 10-1, in a five-inning shortened game. The second game went nine innings, with Middlebury coming up on the short end of a 9-8 contest.

Softball Team Earns Split With Williams

4/9/05 - In a rematch of last year’s NESCAC Championship, Middlebury met Williams today in the season-opening NESCAC games for both teams. Both games would need extra innings as the Panthers pulled out a 4-3 nine inning win in game one, before falling 2-0 in eight innings in game two.

Softball Team Returns From Spring Break

3/28/05 - The Panther softball team opened up its spring season with 10 games in Florida during the spring break. Middlebury opened the trip at 5-3 before a pair of losses to Bowdoin and Colby to end the trip.

Totaro Named Interim Head Coach Of Softball

10/28/04 - Angie Totaro has been named the interim head coach of the softball program at Middlebury College. She replaces five-year head coach Diane Boettcher, who left the College this past fall. Last spring, Totaro served as an assistant coach under Boettcher as the team set a school record with 24 wins.
