Women's Tennis Players Honored By The NESCAC - Morgan Is Coach Of The Year

Middlebury College women’s tennis players Claire Smyser (Houston, Texas) and Elizabeth Emery (McLean, Va.) have been honored as All-NESCAC selection. Smyser was named to the first-team in singles and second-team in doubles, while Emery was named to the second-team for her doubles play. Smyser also won the Chaffee Sportsmanship Award, while head coach Mike Morgan earned NESCAC Coach of the Year honors.

Women's Tennis Falls To Bowdoin In NESCAC Tourney

The Middlebury women's tennis team dropped a tight 5-4 match to Bowdoin in the first-round of the NESCAC Tournament hosted by Middlebury. The Polar Bears move to 12-6 on the year and will meet Williams in a NESCAC semifinal match in Middlebury at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Panthers finish their season at 10-5.

Women's Tennis Hosting NESCAC's

Middlebury will serve as the hosted site for the 2008 NESCAC Women's Tennis Championships this weekend. The three-day event begins Friday morning with fifth-seed Bowdoin facing fourth-seed Middlebury at 8:30 a.m., followed by sixth-seed Wesleyan taking on third-seed Tufts at 11:00 a.m. Friday’s winners will advance to Saturday’s semifinals against top-seeded Williams and second-seeded Amherst. The 2008 NESCAC Women’s Tennis Championship will conclude on Sunday, April 27, with the championship match at 9:00 a.m.

Women's Tennis Ends Regular Season With Loss To Amherst

Middlebury wrapped up its regular season with an 8-1 loss at #3 Amherst. The 11th-ranked Panthers return to action this weekend when they host the NESCAC Championships. Middlebury led each doubles match, but ending up dropping all three. Clare Burke was the lone singles winner, picking up a 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 victory.

Women's Tennis Sweeps Hamilton

The Middlebury women's tennis team wrapped up its home regular season with a 9-0 victory over Hamilton. The Panthers cruised to straight-set wins in all singles matches, while sweeping the doubles contests.

Women's Tennis Downs Conn.

The Middlebury women's tennis team had little trouble with Connecticut College as they topped the Camels 9-0. The Panthers move to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in NESCAC conference play.

The Middlebury women’s tennis team picked up a tight 5-4 win over NESCAC foe Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers entered the match ranked ninth in the latest ITA national poll, while the Polar Bears sat in the 15th slot.

The ninth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 NESCAC contest at third-ranked Williams on Tuesday afternoon. Claire Smyser picked up an impressive 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 win in the #1 singles slot, while Clare Burke was a 6-2, 6-7 (10-7), 6-3 winner at #4.

Middlebury College women’s tennis team lost its only match of the week as they dropped an 8-1 decision at Wellesley. Junior Clare Burke (Summit, N.J.) was Middlebury’s lone winner, picking up a 6-4, 6-7 (7-4), 10-8 win in the #4 singles slot.

Women's Tennis Wins Three Of Four In California

The Middlebury College women’s tennis team won three of four contests played during their annual trip to California for spring break. The Panthers opened with an 8-1 win over Claremont-McKenna, before falling by a score of 7-2 to Azusa Pacific. Middlebury came back with an 8-1 win over M.I.T., before rounding out the week with a 6-3 victory over Pomona-Pitzer.

Women's Tennis Wins First Four Matches Of The Spring

The Middlebury College women’s tennis team started the season off with four wins as they hosted matches this weekend indoors on campus. The Panthers lost just one game on the weekend as they earned four convincing victories. Middlebury defeated Babson, Bates and Skidmore 9-0, while defeating Brandeis 8-1.

Women's Tennis Wraps Up Fall Season At NEWITT

The Panther women’s tennis team wrapped up its fall season at the NEWITT Championships. In singles play, sophomore Jamie Haar (Alpine, N.J.) and first-year player Whitney Hanson (Wayne, Pa.) each won a first round match in their respective brackets. In doubles play, Hanson and senior Amy Berkman (Shelburne, Vt.) drew a bye and earned a win before falling in the quarterfinal round of the tourney.

Women's Tennis Competes At Lehigh

The Middlebury College women’s tennis was in action at Lehigh over the weekend with some round-robin scheduling. The Panthers played singles and doubles play against Farleigh Dickson and Marist, while taking on Lehigh in doubles action.

Play Complete At Women's Tennis Doubles Tournament

The Panther women’s tennis team hosted a doubles tournament this weekend on campus, with teams from several schools, as well as “open” players. The Middlebury duo of sophomore Jamie Haar and senior Claire Smyser (Houston, Texas) went 5-0 to win the tournament, with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the finals.

The Panther women’s tennis squad officially opened up its fall season at the ITA Regional hosted by M.I.T. over the weekend. Seniors Amanda Berck (Roslyn, N.Y.) and Claire Smyser (Houston, Texas) both played well in singles play, advancing to the third round of play.
