All-NESCAC Volleyball Team Announced - Gibbs Is Rookie Of The Year

Middlebury College women’s volleyball players Jane Handel (Evanston, Ill.) and Lauren Barrett (Medfield, Mass.) have been named to the All-NESCAC team, while first-year player Julia Gibbs (Houston, Texas) earned the conference’s rookie of the year honors. The three helped lead the Panthers to an impressive 20-6 season, with their 16th straight trip to the NESCAC Tournament.

Women's Volleyball Falls In NESCAC Quarters

The Middlebury women's volleyball team saw its season come to and end with a 3-2 (25-19, 21-25, 17-25, 25-21, 15-13) loss to Amherst in the NESCAC Quarterfinals at Tufts. The Panthers end their year with an impressive 20-win season at 20-6 overall.

Volleyball Headed To Championship Weekend - Watch Semifinals/Finals Live!

For the second-straight year, Tufts University has finished atop the conference standings and has secured the number-one seed for the upcoming NESCAC Volleyball Championship. The Jumbos will face a formidable tournament field, as seven of the eight teams that qualified sport a .500 or better record in league play this season. The 2009 edition of the tournament kicks off this coming Friday, Nov. 6 with quarterfinal matches at 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Cousens Gymnasium in Medford, Mass. The 2009 NESCAC Volleyball Championship continues with semifinal action on Saturday, Nov. 7, and concludes on Sunday, Nov. 8 with the championship match getting underway at 12:00 p.m.

Volleyball Wins Two - Headed To NESCAC Tourney

The Middlebury women's volleyball team wrapped-up its regular season with a pair of wins at Hamilton. The Panthers topped Colby 3-0 before earning a 3-1 win over Bates to finish at 7-3 in NESCAC play. Middlebury ends the regular season with a 20-5 mark and has earned the fourth seed for the upcoming NESCAC Tournament. Middlebury will take on #5 Amherst at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6th at Tufts.

Women's Volleyball Falls At Williams

Middlebury saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end as they dropped a 3-1 (25-22,25-18,22-25,25-16) NESCAC decision at Williams. The Panthers wrap-up their regular season with a pair of NESCAC matches vs. Colby and Bates at Hamilton on Saturday.

Volleyball Wins Title At Hall Of Fame Tourney

The Middlebury College women’s volleyball team has now won eight matches in a row after capturing the silver bracket at the Hall of Fame Invitational hosted by Mt. Holyoke. With their four wins last week, the Panthers now stand at 18-4 on the year, their most wins since ’04. The Panthers earned 3-0 victories over Mt. Holyoke and Westfield State, before topping Bowdoin 3-2 in the championship match. Junior Lauren Barrett (Medfield, Mass.) earned tournament MVP honors, while sophomore Jane Handel (Evanston, Ill.) was named to the All-Tournament team.

Volleyball Tops Panthers

In a women’s volleyball match between two of the top Division III teams in New England, Middlebury proved too strong for Plymouth State, defeating the host Panthers in a four-set match at Foley Gymnasium.

Handel Earns NESCAC Player Of The Week Honors

Middlebury College volleyball player Jane Handel (Evanston, Ill.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week. Handel helped lead the Panthers to a perfect 3-0 record as they hosted three NESCAC contests in Pepin Gym. The sophomore averaged 3.64 kills and 3.0 digs/game to lead Middlebury over the two-day event. She also added .45 blocks/game as the Panthers moved to 14-4 overall with a 5-2 mark in NESCAC play.

Women's Volleyball Goes 3-0 In NESCAC Weekend

The Middlebury College women’s volleyball team had a great weekend in Pepin Gym, hosting a NESCAC quad. The Panther women earned a 3-0 mark, picking up key wins over Tufts and Bowdoin (after dropping the first set in each match), while topping Hamilton in their final match of the weekend. Middlebury edged out a hard-fought 3-1 (26-28, 25-22, 26-24, 25-22) win over Tufts on Friday night, before coming away with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-12) victory over Bowdoin on Saturday. The Panthers ended their weekend with a 3-0 (8, 12, 16) win over Hamilton.

Volleyball Set To Host Quad

The Middlebury women's volleyball team will host a NESCAC Quad on October 16th and 17th in Pepin Gym. The panthers will host five matches over the two days, with three NESCAC schools attending.

Volleyball Earns Split In Connecticut

The Middlebury volleyball team earned a weekend split in a pair of matches played at Connecticut College. On Friday night, the host school (13-3, 4-1) earned their fifth straight win with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-20) victory over the Panthers.

Volleyball Splits NESCAC Matches

The Middlebury women's volleyball team opened up NESCAC play with a pair of matches at Williams. The Panthers defeated Trinity 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 26-24) in their first match of the day, before falling to Amherst, 3-2 (15-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-12). A complete wrap-up will follow on Monday.

The Panther volleyball team improved to 9-3 on the season with a 3-1 (25-6, 14-25, 25-22, 25-14) win over Norwich in Pepin Gym. Jane Handel led the offense with 13 kills, while Elissa Goeke earned seven on the night. Lauren Barrett came in with a dozen digs, while Reisa Bloch added 11.

Volleyball Cruises Past Colby-Sawyer

The Middlebury women’s volleyball team got back on track with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-20) win over Colby-Sawyer at home. The Panthers improve to 8-2 on the season with the win, 2-0 at Pepin Gym. Jane Handel earned a dozen kills in the win, while Caroline Cordle added nine. Cordle also came up with 15 digs and three service aces, while Natalie DuPre and Caitlin Barrett had 12 digs apiece. Elissa Goeke was big at the net with 3.5 blocks in the win, as Lauren Barrett dished out 29 assists.

Volleyball Wins Two Of Three At Amherst

The Middlebury women's volleyball team enjoyed a successful weekend at the Amherst Classic. The Panthers earned a 3-0 win over Westfield State to open the tourney, before topping the host school 3-1 in their first match on Saturday to extend their winning streak to seven matches. The weekend ended with a hard-fought 3-2 loss at the hands of Brandeis. A complete wrap-up will follow on Monday.

Volleyball Wins Fifth Straight

The Panther women's volleyball team won its fifth straight match as they earned a 3-0 road win at Union. Middlebury used a balanced attack in the win, led by nine kills from Julia Gibbs and seven from Jane Handel. Reisa Bloch had 11 digs, Handel had nine, while Lauren Barrett earned 24 assists. Caroline Cordle and Elissa Goeke each had three block assists in the win.

Women's Volleyball Tops St. Michael's In Home-Opener

Middlebury earned its fourth straight 3-0 win as they defeated St. Michael's in the team's home-opener in Pepin Gym. The Panthers had little trouble with the Purple Knights, coming away with a 25-15, 25-7, 25-5 victory. Jane Handel paced the team with 12 kills, Elissa Goeke earned eight, while Caroline Cordle chipped in with seven. Natalie DuPre earned a dozen digs in the match, while Lauren Barrett added 28 assists.

The Middlebury College women’s volleyball team is off to a 3-1 start after a weekend at the Potsdam Invitational. The Panthers opened their season with a hard-fought 3-2 loss to Clarkson, before bouncing back with at 3-0 victory over Morrisville State. Middlebury swept its matches on Saturday, earning 3-0 wins over Oswego and Utica.
