Women's Basketball Falls To Colby, Ends Season

The Middlebury College women's basketball team saw its season come to an end as Colby outscored the Panthers 36-15 in the second half to win 60-38 this afternoon at Pepin Gym. The Panthers finish their season at 14-10 and in ninth place in the NESCAC standings. Colby moves to 9-14 and secured the eighth seed for the upcoming NESCAC tourney.
An evenly played first half saw nine lead changes. The Mules built an 11-point advantage at the 7:07 mark with a 12-0 run. The Panthers answered that with their own 12-0 outburst, taking the lead at 1:39 on a lay-up by Katie Fehsenfeld. A late bucket by Colby gave the Mules the halftime lead 24-23, despite committing 14 turnovers.
In the second half, the Panthers tied the game at 28 on a three-pointer by Katie Fisher with 18:00 remaining in the game. Colby went on their next run, outscoring Middlebury 14-4 to build a 42-32 advantage at the 9:40 mark. Middlebury could not respond, as the 10-point lead grew to 22 down the stretch as Colby outscored the Panthers 18-6 to seal the win 60-38.
The Mules, who out-rebounded the Panthers 42-31 overall and 35-16 on the defensive glass were paced by Tracy Nale's 13 points. Alanna Balboni added 12 points and hauled in 11 rebounds in the win. Fehsenfeld led Middlebury with 12 points, while Alanna Young had 11 and a team-high seven boards.
