Williams Holds Off Middlebury

Williams moved to 17-3 overall and 4-1 in NESCAC play as they defeated Middlebury (12-6, 2-3) 67-61 in Pepin Gym. The Panthers made several runs at the Ephs in the second half, but Williams was able to answer and hold on for the win.
Tied at 14 in the first half, Williams went on a 6-0 spurt to take a 20-14 lead with 7:24 remaining. Middlebury cut the lead to one before Meghan Stetson hit a three with 25 seconds left to give the Ephs a 30-26 lead at the break. The first half was a sloppy one, with Middlebury turning the ball over 15 times, while Williams committed nine turnovers.
A pair of buckets from Alanna Young early in the second half gave Middlebury a 33-32 lead 1:55 into the half. Williams answered with an 8-0 run, all eight points coming from Stetson, to take a 40-33 lead at the 15:35 mark. The lead grew to nine later in the half, before an 11-2 run at the 13:15 mark resulted in a 48-48 tie with 8:00 remaining. Williams regained the lead on its next possession and then made five of seven free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Stetson led all scorers with 22 points on 8 of 12 shooting, while Maggie Miller went 7 of 15 for 18 points with nine rebounds. Meghan O'Malley added 15 points and eight boards in the win.
Katie Fisher led Middlebury with 15 points on 6 of 12 shooting, Micaela McVary added 10 points and eight boards, while Young had nine points and nine rebounds.
