Women's Basketball Wins Home-Opener

11/29/05 - Middlebury improved to 5-1 on the season as they picked up a 58-52 win over <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Castleton State in the team's home-opener. The Panthers held a 26-20 lead at the half, but saw it cut to three with 16:55 left in the second half. The lead slowly increased to a game-high 13 points at 54-41 with 6:18 remaining. Castleton continued to chip away and cut the lead to four a late three, but it wasn't enough as the Panthers held on for the win.
Maryanne Verzosa and Alanna Young led the team with 13 points apiece, while Micaela McVary scored eight points, added six boards and picked up five steals. Young had a game-high eight rebounds in the game.
