Middlebury Falls At Top-Ranked Bowdoin

Middlebury hung tough with the nation's top team as the Panthers suffered a 56-44 road loss at Bowdoin. The Polar Bears took a 19-0 lead early as Eileen Flaherty scored nine points in the spurt. The Polar Bears connected on 45% of their attempts in the opening frame to 21% from Middlebury and led 35-15 at intermission.
Bowdoin increased their lead to as many as 25 points with under nine minutes to play before a late Panther run cut into the final score. Middlebury out-scored Bowdoin 20-8 in the last 9:05 of the contest to make it a 56-44 final.
Flaherty led all scorers with 17 points, while Jill Anelauskas added 16 for the Polar Bears. Middlebury was led by 13 points from Aylie Baker, but could not overcome an 0-10 shooting performance from beyond the three-point arc. Bowdoin has now won 76 consecutive home games in Morrell Gymnasium, the longest home-court winning streak in NCAA basketball.
