Women's Hoops Tops Plattsburgh For Fifth Straight Win

Middlebury closed the game on a 14-4 run to pick up a 62-52 win over Plattsburgh in Pepin Gym. The win is the fifth straight for the Panthers (5-3), as they prepare to host Colby-Sawyer on Thursday at 5:30. The Cardinals drop their third straight game and fall to 2-6 on the season. The Middlebury defense forced 31 turnovers in the game, taking advantage with 28 points.
With the game tied at 10, Plattsburgh went on a 10-2 run to take a 20-12 lead with 9:31 left to play. Threes from Lindsey Larivee and Catherine Cassidy sparked the run. Middlebury chipped away, going on a 7-0 spurt at the 5:57 mark to take a 26-25 advantage with 2:47 left in the half. Maddie Moreau hit two consecutive buckets for the Panthers to give them the lead. Taylor Amarando scored for the Cardinals before Leah Kepping hit a three with under a minute to go, giving the Panthers a 29-27 lead at the intermission.
The second half featured six ties, with Plattsburgh holding a slim lead through much of the half. Leah Kepping tied the game at 48 with 7:34 remaining, converting a four-point play with a three and a free throw. The Panthers went on to score 14 of the game's final 18 points to secure the win. Middlebury gained some breathing room with 2:05 left as Jesse Miller made a great pass to a cutting Brittany Perfetti to make it a nine-point game.
Kepping led all scorers with 21 points and five assists on 9 of 16 shooting from the floor. Perfetti added 16 points, while Moreau netted 10. Stephany Surrette and Kaitlyn Fallon each grabbed seven boards in the victory.
Amarando paced Plattsburgh with 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Larivee scored 14, while Stephanie McCoy chipped in with eight.
