Women's Basketball Rolls Past Norwich

Middlebury outscored Norwich 52-25 in the second half en route to a 92-58 win in their home-opener Tuesday night in Pepin Gym. With the win, the Panthers improve to 3-0 on the young season while the Cadets drop to 1-3. Middlebury’s 92 points were the highest offensive output since the 1998-99 campaign.
Middlebury, which never trailed in the contest, methodically built a 28-20 lead at the 8:08 mark. Norwich went on a 7-0 run over the next two minutes, capped by a pair of free throws by Kristin Brown at 6:09. The Panthers closed out the half on a 12-6 spurt, highlighted by six points from Maddie Moreau for a 40-33 lead at the break. The Cadet duo of Karissa Doyon, 16 points, and Christine Daniels, 10 points, netted 26 of the 33 first half points for Norwich.
The Panther lead hovered just below 10 points for the first few minutes of the second half, before Moreau nailed a three for a 51-39 lead at 14:21. The Panthers maintained their double-digit lead, slowly building it to 60-45 on a free throw from Brittany Perfetti with 10:03 remaining. Middlebury closed out the game on a 32-13 run as 12 Panthers got in the scoring column.
Moreau led the Panthers with 17 points on 7-10 shooting from the floor, as Perfetti and Lauren Sanchez added 16 apiece, while Stephany Surrette added 10 and grabbed eight rebounds. Norwich’s Doyon led all scorers with 20 points, as Daniels added 18, while grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds for a double-double.
