Women's Golf Finishes NCAA's In Eighth - Gallagher & A. Ortega Honored

The Middlebury College women's golf team made its first appearance in the NCAA Championships after an impressive season. The Panthers finished the 20-team tourney in eighth place with a four-day total of 1,370. Methodist won the tournament with a 1,215, with Williams placing 10th and Amherst coming in 13th.
Senior Kerry Ortega (Clinton, N.Y.) led the Middlebury women, finishing in 30th place with a four-day total of 334. Senior Heather Gallagher (Toronto, Ont.) was next in 50th with a 345, followed by senior Allison Ortega (Clinton, N.Y.) and sophomore Julie Ellenberger (Concord, Mass.) both in 52nd place with 348's, while junior Karen Levin (Morton Grove, Ill.) finished 62nd, shooting a 353.
The championship took place at the El Campeon Golf Course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The event was hosted by Oglethorpe University and the Central Florida Sports Commission.
The NGCA All-Region Teams were also announced at the championship, with Allison Ortega and Heather Gallagher earning All-East honors.
