Middlebury put the first goal on the board when Lorna Gifis got free on a breakaway and netted the puck in the top right corner. Rose Babst was credited with an assist on the goal. Less than a minute later, Abby Kurtz-Phelan extended the Panthers' lead to two. She took a pass from Shannon Sylvester in front of the net and put it through the legs of Williams' goalie Fern Senior.

Williams cut the lead to one early in the second. Tori Scott took the rebound off of a Molly Wasserman shot and put it over the diving Middlebury goalie, Kate Kogut. Melissa Vandermyn also assisted on the play. Williams peppered Kogut with 19 shots in the period, but Wasserman's was the only one that showed on the scoreboard. The Panthers regained their two-goal advantage when Sylvester netted a wrist shot from close range. She took a pass from Emily McNamara in front of the net and flipped it past Senior.

The Panthers went up 4-1 midway through the third period as Gifis notched her second goal of the afternoon. She received a pass from Shannon Tarrant and shot the puck through the legs of Senior into the

netting. Gifis did not stop there, as she completed her hat trick minutes later. She got her stick on the rebound of an Emily Quizon shot and slid it into the goal.

Middlebury's Kogut saved all but one of Williams' 39 shots. Senior saved 23 of 28 shots for Williams in the losing effort. (courtesy Bowdoin SID) (box)
