Three Women's Hockey Players Earn All-American Status

3/18/05 - Three members of the <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Middlebury College women's hockey team were named to the All-American team by the AHCA (American Hockey Coaches Association). Junior Emily Quizon (Chino Hills, Calif.) was named to the first team, while senior Lorna Gifis (Princeton, N.J.) and sophomore Shannon Tarrant (Brookfield, Conn.) earned second-team honors. The threesome have led Middlebury to this weekend's final four, after capturing the NESCAC Championship.

Quizon is a first-team selection after earning second-team honors a year ago. The NESCAC Player of the Year is also a two-time first-team All-NESCAC selection. The junior leads the NESCAC and ranks third in the nation with 1.86 points/game this season, while leading the nation with 1.29 assists/game. Quizon has 16 goals and 36 assists for 52 points on the season, with six power play and three game-winning goals.

Gifis is a second-team All-American selection for the second consecutive season, after earning first-team All-NESCAC honors for the second year in a row. She leads the team with 25 goals this season, ranking her sixth nationally with .89 goals/game. Her power play numbers have been impressive, as she leads the nation with 10 power play tallies this season. Gifis also has 18 assists for 43 points with six game-winners.

Tarrant is a second-team selection after earning first-team honors in her rookie season as both an All-NESCAC and All-American. She has helped anchor a Middlebury defense that ranks eighth nationally, allowing just 1.36 goals/game and killing .925 of its opponents power plays. She owns seven goals and 19 assists for 26 points in '04-'05.
