Women's Hockey Travels To Bowdoin

3/1/05 - The Middlebury College women's hockey team will make its fourth consecutive appearance in the NESCAC Tournament this weekend in <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Brunswick, Maine. The games will be hosted by Bowdoin College, who will host the tournament for the third consecutive year after Middlebury hosted the inaugural tournament in '02. Bowdoin meets Hamilton in semifinal #1 on Saturday, March 5th at 1:00 p.m., while Middlebury takes on Williams in game two at 4:00 p.m. The winners meet on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. for the title and an automatic bid to the 2005 NCAA Championship tournament.
The Panthers are the '03 NESCAC Champions, with Bowdoin capturing the '02 and '04 title games. Middlebury advanced to the NESCAC semifinals after a 7-0 win over Trinity last Saturday. The Panthers enter the weekend with a 21-3-1 record, having gone 14-1-1 in NESCAC play. Middlebury is ranked third in the latest national poll and fourth in the pairwise power rankings. Bowdoin (4th/6th) and Williams (9th/10th) are also ranked among the nation's leaders. Middlebury's offense ranks seventh in the nation, scoring 4.80 goals/game, while the defense allows 1.36 goals/game, placing them ninth among Division III teams. The special teams have been impressive, with Middlebury leading the nation with a power play that clicks at .272.
Emily Quizon leads the team in scoring this season with 16 goals and 33 assists for 49 points. Her assists and points lead the team, while she owns six power play goals on the season. Lorna Gifis is the team's leading goal scorer with 24, to go along with her 16 assists, 40 points, and a nation's best nine power play goals. Alison Graddock (11-16-27), Karen Levin (5-19-24), Shannon Tarrant (6-16-22) and Shannon Sylvester (5-13-18) round out the team's leading scorers.
In goal, Kate Kogut has a 14-3-1 record with a 1.49 GAA and a .924 save percentage to go along with her six shutouts. Angie Todd has also seen some action this season, with a 6-0 record, along with a 1.09 GAA and a .918 save percentage.
