Women's Hockey Defeats Amherst, Clinch Home Ice

Middlebury broke open a 2-1 game with a pair of third period goals on its way to a 4-1 win over Amherst. The top-ranked Panthers dominated the third period, out shooting the Jeffs 17-4 in the session. With the win, Middlebury clinched the top seed for the upcoming NESCAC Tournament on March 4th and 5th.
Middlebury took a 1-0 lead at 4:09 as Emily Quizon came from behind the net and snapped a shot past Stacey Johnston from the left side. Amherst tied the game at 11:23 as Rachel Simon scored on a rebound from the slot.
The Panthers regained the lead just 38 seconds into the second period with a power play goal. Annemarie Cellino's shot from the blue line was knocked home by Shannon Sylvester from the doorstep.
The lead grew to 3-1 midway through the second period as Sylvester put home her own rebound from just outside the crease. Quizon struck just 2:01 later as she scored once again after circling the net.
Kate Kogut ended the game with 13 saves to pick up the win, while Johnston made 29 saves for Amherst.
