Williams Knocks Off Women's Hockey

February 5, 2006

Middlebury saw its 24-game winning streak come to an end as they suffered a 4-1 loss to Williams in NESCAC play on Sunday afternoon. The top-ranked Panthers return to action on Wednesday night at second-ranked Plattsburgh.

Despite being out shot 10-7 in the first period, the Panthers held a 1-0 lead at the end of one. Emily Quizon scored 16:55 into the period from the slot, after she stopped the puck with her skate before snapping a shot into the far corner.

Williams answered just six seconds into a power play, just 45 seconds into the second period. Rachel Barr skated through the slot before scoring through the five-hole on a shot that went in off the pads of Kate Kogut. The Ephs took a 2-1 lead at 5:01 as Anna Condino circled the net before scoring on a shot to the far post. Williams took a 3-1 lead with just 48 seconds left in the second period as Caralyn Quan scored on a backhander after a nice feed from Barr. Middlebury had plenty of chances to score in the period, but went 0/3 on the power play.

Williams gained some breathing room just 46 seconds into the third period as Barr made a quick pass to Condino, who redirected the shot on the doorstep. Middlebury put on some pressure in the third period, but could not get one by Denise McCulloch.

Kogut made 13 saves in 42 minutes, while Abby Smith made three stops in 18 minutes of relief. McCulloch made 18 stops for Williams.
