Women's Hockey Sweeps Wesleyan

January 15, 2006

Middlebury head coach Bill Mandigo earned his second win in as many days against his alma mater as the Panthers took game two, 3-0 at Wesleyan.

Abby Kurtz-Phelan tipped in a point shot by Emily McNamara on Middlebury's first power-play chance of the game and it proved to be the game winner as Middlebury, undefeated and ranked first nationally in Division III, posted its third shutout of the year and second by goalie Angie Todd. The goal was the ninth of the year for Kurtz-Phelan. Margaret MacDonald netted her first goal of the season in the second period, also a power-play marker, to pad the lead and Erika Nakamura posted her seventh of the season, tipping in a centering pass from the right to the short side with only five seconds to go in the period.
