Women's Hockey Tops Potsdam

Middlebury won its home-opener in Kenyon Arena, as the seventh-ranked Panthers earned a 3-1 win over Potsdam. Middlebury held a 39-17 shots advantage in the game, as rookie Laura Pinsent made 16 saves in goal to earn the win in her collegiate debut.
Middlebury took a 1-0 lead with 2:33 left in the first period, as Sara Ugalde scored her second power play goal of the season. Ugalde gathered a rebound off a Maggie Melberg send-in, before finding the back of the net.
The Panthers made it a 2-0 contest in the second period, with Nora Bergman scoring from the low slot, with an assist going to Eliza Butler.
Madison Styrbicki carried in a puck and blasted home a shot from the blue line for a shorthanded tally just 3:04 into the third period, making it a 3-0 game.
Potsdam broke up the shutout at the 7:04 mark, when Katie Komsa scored her first of the year, unassisted.
Pinsent moved to 1-0 on the year with the win in goal, while Jen Conophy made 36 saves between the pipes for Potsdam.
