Women's Hockey Completes Sweep Of Colby

A day after going to overtime for a victory over Colby, the third-ranked Middlebury women's hockey team received a hat-trick from rookie Katie Sullivan and three assists from Maria Bourdeau in a 6-0 NESCAC win over the Mules Saturday at Alfond Rink.

Middlebury, which took a 3-2 overtime win over the Mules on Friday night, improve to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Mules are 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the league.

Sullivan scored what ended up as the game-winning goal just 2:33 into the first period with an assist from Bourdeau.

The Panthers, who received 22 saves from Annabelle Jones in her first collegiate shutout in her first game, went up 2-0 after the first period on Madeline Joyce's goal at 11:13 with assists from Heather Marrison and Maggie Melberg.

Middlebury scored three goals in a span of about six minutes in the second period to pull away. Madison Styrbicki tallied at 8:35, Melberg made it 4-0 at 10:59, and Sullivan scored her second goal at 14:01. Sullivan closed out the scoring in the third period with an unassisted goal at 15:18. Emily Fluke had two assists in the game.

Brianne Wheeler made 30 saves in net for Colby, as the Panthers held a 36-22 shots advantage.
