Women's Hockey Completes Sweep Of Wesleyan

Behind a four-point game from junior Maggie Woodward, #4 Middlebury cruised past Wesleyan 8-0 on Saturday afternoon. Middlebury (7-0-2, 6-0 NESCAC) remained unbeaten with the victory, while Wesleyan fell to 2-10 on the year and 1-5 in conference play. Middlebury now stands 45-0-3 all-time against Wesleyan.
Woodward had a hand in the Panthers' first two goals, as sophomore Sarah Ugalde put home a one-timer off a pass from Woodward with 12:43 gone in the first and senior Maggie Melberg cashed in a rebound at 18:48. Freshman Hannah Bielawski put home another rebound at the 19:23 mark to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead at intermission.
Junior Lauren Greer gave the Panthers a 4-0 lead with an unassisted tally 40 seconds into the second period, then scored off a rebound with the Panthers on the power play at 13:00 for a five-goal cushion. Woodward made it 6-0 at 15:08, lighting the lamp after a Wesleyan giveaway in front of the crease.
Woodward added another unassisted goal 1:16 into the third with a breakaway marker, and Bielawski concluded the scoring with 6:15 to play.
Middlebury netminder Laura Pinsent recorded seven saves in 34:05. Senior Becca Shaw tallied three saves in the final 25:55 in her first action of the year. In the Wesleyan net, junior Ashleigh Corvi stopped 25 shots in the first two periods. Junior Nicole Bonneau saved eight of ten shots in the final frame.
Middlebury swept the season series for the fifth straight year, outscoring Wesleyan 16-1 in the two games.
