Women's Lacrosse To Host NCAA Regional

5/3/04 - Middlebury will make its 11th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance when they host one of four, four-team Regionals this weekend on Kohn Field. The Panthers will meet the winner of the Cortland/N.E.C. game (played on Wednesday) at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. William Smith meets Wheaton in the other contest at 2:30 p.m. The winners meet at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday in the NCAA Regional Final. The winner advances to the NCAA semifinals/championship next weekend at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, N.Y. Middlebury will be looking to make its 11th straight appearance in the NCAA semifinals.

Middlebury enters the tournament after finishing its fourth straight undefeated regular season. The Panthers are now 96-3 over their last six seasons, with four NESCAC Championships. Middlebury earned NCAA Championships in '97, '99, '01 and '02.

Leading the team in scoring this season have been Nuala O'Donohoe (53-16-69), Elizabeth Renehan (29-18-47) and Michele Bergofsky (18-20-38). Becca Brakeley leads the defense, while Sarah Grenert allows just 5.33 goals/game in net.
