Women's Lacrosse Prepares For Final Four

5/16/05 - The Middlebury College women's lacrosse team will makes its 12th consecutive appearance in the NCAA semifinals this weekend at the <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />College of New Jersey. The Panthers will take on the host school on Saturday, while Colorado College meets Salisbury in the other semifinal at 11:30. The winners meet for the NCAA Championship at noon on Sunday, with the game televised live on CSTV (College Sports Television, 611 on DirectTV, also available on some local cable systems).<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Middlebury enters the weekend with a 16-1 record, with its only loss coming to top-ranked Salisbury back on March 23rd in Florida. The Panthers cruised to a 14-4 win over Nazareth and an 11-3 win over Bowdoin in the NCAA Regional on Kohn Field this past weekend. Prior to the NCAA Tournament, Middlebury captured its fifth consecutive NESCAC Tournament with a 10-2 win over Amherst.

The Panthers are now 116-4 over their last seven seasons, with five NESCAC Championships and five overall NCAA Championships in '97, '99, '01, '02 and '04. Middlebury has an amazing 28-6 record in NCAA Tournament play, dating back to the spring of '94.

Leading the team in scoring this season has been NESCAC Player of the Year, Elizabeth Renehan (41-18-59). Kim Walker (46-8-54), Claire Edelen (31-13-44), Alison Perencevich (28-16-44) and Schuyler Winstead (24-18-42) round out the other leading point collectors. The Middlebury defense, led by Caitlin McCormick, has been amazing all season long. In four post-season games, the Panthers are allowing just 3.5 goals/game. Johanna Rosenfield anchors the defense in goal, sporting a 6.45 GAA on the season.
