Women's Lacrosse Thumps Amherst

4/23/05 - In a game between two of the nation's top teams, #2 Middlebury handed #3 Amherst a 18-6 loss on Kohn Field. The loss was the first of the season for the Jeffs, while the Panthers have now won nine straight.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Trailing 1-0, Middlebury rattled off three goals in a 1:55 span to take a 3-1 lead with 19:30 left in the first half. Dana Kuper scored her second of the game on a free position shot for the Jeffs, before the Panthers went on a 4-0 run. Alison Perencevich started the run with a free position goal, before Elizabeth Renehan scored on the ensuing face-off just 14 seconds later. Claire Edelen put home a rebound before Kim Walker scored with a pair of nice moves to make it a 7-2 game at the 9:23 mark. Alyssa Briody scored with a low shot at the 7:19 mark, before Middlebury closed the half on a 5-0 run to take a 12-3 lead into the halftime break.

<?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Amherst opened the second half with a pair of quick goals before Schulyer Winstead answered at the 17:59 mark to give Middlebury a 13-5 lead. Amherst would score its final goal of the game with 17:08 remaining, as Kuper scored on a free position, her fourth goal of the afternoon. The Panthers would score five more times in the game's final 12:34 to seal the win.

Renehan and Walker scored four goals apiece to lead the Middlebury offense, while Winstead added three goals and three assists.
