Women's Lacrosse Prepares For Final Four - Title Game Televised

The Middlebury College women's lacrosse team will make its 13th consecutive trip to the NCAA semifinals after an 11-9 win over Bowdoin in an NCAA quarterfinal match-up on Kohn Field. The Panthers will meet The College of N.J. in the NCAA semifinals on Saturday, May 20th at 2:30 p.m. at Stevens Institute (Hoboken, N.J.). Gettysburg will take on Cortland State in the other semifinal at 11:30 a.m. The title game is slated for Sunday, May 21st at noon and will be televised live on CSTV.

The Panthers advanced to the final four after a pair of NCAA Regional wins on Kohn Field. Middlebury defeated Union 19-6, before slipping past Bowdoin 11-9 to advance to the semifinal round. Middlebury earned its way into the NCAA tournament with an automatic bid after a 14-8 win over Wesleyan in the NESCAC Championship game. The Panthers have now hosted and won all six NESCAC Championship Tournaments.
The Panthers are 32-7 in NCAA play since they first qualified for the tourney in '94. Their .820 NCAA winning percentage is higher than all but one team (TCNJ) in the history of Division III lacrosse. Middlebury has also amassed an amazing 122-6 record over their last seven seasons.
Middlebury had advanced to the NCAA title game four of the last five years, winning NCAA titles in '97, '99, '01, '02 and '04. Head coach Missy Foote is in her 25th season at the helm of the program, sporting a career record of 301-69-1. Her .813 winning percentage is second all-time among her peers.
Middlebury enters the contest on a 14-game winning streak, dating back to an 8-6 loss to Salisbury in Florida on March 22. The team averages almost 16 goals/game this season, while allowing just 7.7.
Michele Bergofsky and Schuyler Winstead lead a balanced scoring attack this season. Bergofsky has 30 goals and 30 assists for 60 points on the year, while Winstead has 31 goals and 29 assists for 60 points. Elizabeth Renehan (42-10-52), Kim Walker (35-16-51) and Alison Perencevich (44-4-48) round out the leading scorers. Walker leads the team with 42 groundballs and 53 draw controls on the season. In goal, Blair Bowie has a 7.83 GAA and a .526 save percentage.
