Women's Lacrosse Advances To NESCAC Final

Middlebury held off a tough Williams team and advanced to the NESCAC Championship game with a 17-14 win over the Ephs. The Panthers, who were without head coach Missy Foote who is attending her son's college graduation, will take on Bowdoin in the title game on Sunday at noon.

With the game tied at two, Middlebury went on a 4-0 run at the 24:52 mark of the first half. Michele Bergofsky scored twice during the spurt, giving the Panthers a 6-2 lead. Williams answered with a pair, before the Panthers scored four of the game's next five goals to take a 10-5 lead. The Ephs quickly scored three of the next four to make it an 11-8 contest before the Panthers scored twice in the final 41 seconds of the first half to take a 13-8 lead at the half.

Bergofsky opened the second half scoring before Williams scored six of the next seven goals to trail by one at 15-14 with 5:24 remaining. Elizabeth Pierce scored twice during the run, with four other goal scorers. Middlebury gained a little breathing room with 4:19 remaining as Channing Weymouth scored with an assist from Claire Edelen. Middlebury sealed the game with just 19 seconds left as Edelen found Elizabeth Renehan to make it a 17-14 final.

Allison Perencevich led Middlebury with five goals on the day, Bergofsky added three goals and three assists, Kim Walker had three goals and two assists, while Weymouth scored three times. Schuyler Winsted added three helpers in the game, while Edelen had a pair.

Pierce paced Williams with four goals, while Kaylan Tildsley, Emily Gladden and Rachel Barr had three goals apiece. Sarah Adkins dished out three assists, while Britt Spackman had a pair.

Blair Bowie played 56 minutes for Middlebury, making 11 saves, while Whitney Wildrick made a pair of saves in four minutes. Meghan Dwyer ended the afternoon with nine saves for the Ephs.
