Mary O’Connell scored two goals while assisting on three others to lead third-ranked Middlebury to a 12-4 victory at Connecticut College Saturday. The Panthers improve to 2-0 for the season, while the Camels fall to 1-1, 0-1 in NESCAC play.
Third-ranked Middlebury raced out to a 10-2 halftime advantage, and withstood a comeback attempt by Tufts en route to a 12-8 victory Saturday. The game was the 500th of her career for Panther head coach Missy Foote. The contest at Bello Field marked the season and NESCAC opener for both squads.
On the heels of back to back NCAA semifinal appearances, the Middlebury women’s lacrosse team has no plans of letting off the accelerator this spring. Ranked third in the IWLCA national preseason poll after posting an 18-3 record and a runner-up NESCAC tournament finish with all three losses coming by a single goal a season ago, the team has lofty goals headed into the 2014 campaign.
Former Trinity College women’s lacrosse All-American Mallory Hinman has joined the coaching staff at Middlebury College. The Longmeadow, Massachusetts native graduated in the spring of ’13, majoring in biology.
