Women's Soccer To Host NESCAC Tournament

11/2/04 - The Middlebury College women's soccer team will make its fifth consecutive appearance in the NESCAC Tournament when they host the semifinals and finals on Dragone Field. The Panthers will take on <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Connecticut College in one semifinal, while Williams meets Bowdoin in the other contest. The winners will meet at noon on Sunday for the NESCAC title and an automatic bid to the 2004 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament.

The Panthers enter the weekend ranked second in New England and 12th nationally. Middlebury leads the NESCAC in goals/game with 3.43 and fewest goals allowed/game with 0.48. Leading the team in scoring are Brittany Cronin and Mayo Fujii. Cronin paces the team and the NESCAC with 15 goals and 33 points on the season, to go along with her three assists. She has five goals in her last three games heading into this weekend's play. Fujii (11-0-22), Caity Abshere (4-7-15), Erin Pittenger (4-3-11) and Erin Oliver (3-4-10) round out the offensive leaders. Abshere's .54 assists/game lead the NESCAC. In goal, Els Van Woert leads the league with a 0.50 GAA and a .920 save percentage to go along with her six shutouts.
