Women's Soccer Falls At Bates

10/22/05 - Bates out shot Middlebury 25-11 on its way to a 2-0 shutout over the Panthers in NESCAC action. The Bobcats move to 5-2 in NESCAC play, while Middlebury falls to 3-2-2. The Panthers will play a make-up game at <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Amherst on Sunday.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Bates took a 1-0 lead at the 20:47 mark of the first half as Jenna Benson scored after a corner kick. The lead doubled midway through the second half as Kim Alexander's shot deflected off the hands of Middlebury goalkeeper Adele Plunkett and over her head into the goal. Middlebury's best chance to score failed, as they missed a penalty kick in the contest.
Nini Spalding made a dozen saves in goal to earn the shutout, while Plunkett made 14 saves for Middlebury.
