Women's Soccer Falls At Tufts
September 17, 2005
9/17/05 - Middlebury suffered its first loss off the season as they fell at Tufts, 3-0. The Panthers were out shot 11-9 on the afternoon, and had some good chances, but could not find the back of the net.
Ariel Samuelson scored all three goals for Tufts, while Sarah Callaghan earned three assists. On the first goal in the 33rd minute, Callaghan served the ball from 25 yards out to Samuelson. With her back to the goal, she spun and beat two defenders to slot the ball past Middlebury keeper Adele Plunkett near the post. Middlebury mainly controlled possession in the first half, but the Tufts defense was able to limit their goal-scoring opportunities.
The game remained 1-0 until Callaghan sent Samuelson in alone on a break-away for a goal with 14:10 on the clock. With less than two minutes remaining, Callaghan sent a long ball over the top to Samuelson for another break-away. Her shot ricocheted off the goalie back to her and she dribbled it in for the hat trick.
Plunkett stopped two shots for Middlebury.
