Women's Soccer Falls To Amherst In OT

October 7, 2006

Katie Coffey headed in a crossing pass from Shannon Smith with 5:41 left in the second overtime to lift Amherst to a 3-2 win over Middlebury on Dragone Field. The Panthers return to action on Tuesday at Plymouth State, while Amherst travels to Mount Holyoke on Thursday.

Amherst took a 1-0 lead at the 17:12 mark as Meg Murphy scored with a great shot from the outside that sailed over the head of Middlebury keeper Adele Plunkett. Middlebury tied the game at 26:41 as Kim Walker fed Erin Pittenger who finished in the box. Amherst answered just 34 seconds later as Amy Armstrong converted a pass from Lesley Pruzansky from 15 yards out.

The Jeffs had some good chances early in the second half, but could not find the back of the net. Middlebury scored the equalizer at 62:11, as Ashley Pfaff had an open net after Erin Oliver had drawn Amherst keeper Piper Crowell out of the goal.

Both teams had opportunities to score throughout the remainder of regulation, but neither could find the back of the net, forcing the game into overtime. Plunkett ended the game with nine saves for Middlebury, while Crowell made three stops for Amherst.
