Middlebury Battles Skidmore To Scoreless Tie

September 12, 2007

The Middlebury women's soccer team earned a scoreless tie on the road as they battled Skidmore for 110 minutes. The Thoroughbreds held a 13-7 shots advantage in the game, while Adele Plunkett made eight saves for the shutout.

Both teams had chances in the second half.  In the 55th minute, Skidmore's Jenni Hibbard took a pass from Rachel Sushnen that looked as if it was going in, but at the last second it tailed up and hit the crossbar.

The Panthers had an opportunity in the 65th minute when Caitlin Parker got by three Thoroughbred defenders and fired a rocket toward the top of the net, but Skidmore goalie Liza Mills made a beautiful leaping two-handed save to keep the scored even.

The action continued in overtime.  In the second OT, forward Nora Tomlinson-Weintraub broke free in front of Thoroughbred defenders but her shot went far wide left.

Skidmore would have its last opportunity with 40 seconds left in the second overtime period.  After a corner kick was awarded, Jess Morten lifted the ball deep into the goalie box, but Middlebury was able to clear the ball out and time expired. Mills finished up with four saves for the Thoroughbreds.
