Women's Soccer Drops Home-Opener
September 18, 2010
Middlebury moved to 1-2-1 on the season as the Panthers dropped their home-opener to Trinity (2-0-1), 2-0 on Dragone Field. Middlebury returns to action tomorrow when they host Skidmore at 2:30.
Trinity took a 1-0 lead 14:40 into the first half, with a goal from Martha Dane. The ball squirted free 10 yards out, as Dane quickly gained some room and then stretched her leg for a quick shot that found the right corner of the net.
The Bantams doubled their lead at 23:17, when Leigh Howard scored her third goal of the week. Dane fed Howard, who dribbled left in the box and scored with a shot off the left post from close-range.
The Panthers had a great chance to answer just minutes later, but a scoring opportunity was ruled offside as the ensuing shot hit the crossbar. Middlebury's best chance to score came when Trinity keeper Emily Weedon came out to challenge Scarlett Kirk, stuffing her shot to keep the Panthers off the board.
Middlebury held a 10-5 shots advantage in the game, but saw nine of them turned away by Weedon. Lauryn Torch ended the contest with a pair of saves for the Panthers.
