Women's Squash Wins Walker Cup

2/22/04 - The women's squash team capped off a great season by capturing the Walker Cup at Yale University. The Cup is a division of the Howe Cup, a part of collegiate squash's national championship. Middlebury went 3-0 on the weekend, dropping only four matches. The Panthers defeated Connecticut College 7-2, topped Tufts 8-1 and defeated Wellesley 8-1 en route to the title.

First-year player Hannah Baker (New York, N.Y.) was solid all weekend at #1, as was junior Holly Haertel (Greenwich, Conn.) playing at the second spot. Both players went 3-0 with solid wins. Also picking up 3-0 records were seniors Liza Franyo (Towson, Md.) and Britt Cosgrove (Hunting Valley, Ohio), junior Lauren Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and sophomore Caitlin Flint (Cohasset, Mass.). Earning 2-1 marks were junior Beth Seeley (Wayland, Mass.) and junior Kea Anstey (Prides Crossing, Mass.), while senior Amanda Knappman (Chester, Conn.) went 1-2.
