5/16/04 - Jackie Ross and Sandy Spring were competing for the Panthers at the NCAA women's individual championships in Memphis, Tenn. In singles action, Ross fell in the first-round 6-0, 6-0. Spring and Jackie Ross competed in doubles, winning their first match 7-6, 7-5, before falling in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-2.

5/5/04 - Middlebury's women's tennis coach Nate Simms has been named the ITA Northeast Regional Coach of the Year. Simms led the team to its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance this spring, advancing his team to the Regional Final before being eliminated. This season's squad set a school record for wins with 16, against just four losses. He has earned a career record of 49-18 in his four years as head coach of the women's tennis program.

5/5/04 - First-year player Jackie Ross and junior Sandy Spring have qualified for the NCAA singles championship. With her record of 13-9, Ross will compete for the title on May 17-19th at Rhodes Colege in Memphis Tennessee.

5/2/04 - The <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Middlebury College women's tennis team saw its season come to an end last week as they fell 6-3 to Amherst in an NCAA Regional Final hosted by the Jeffs. The Panthers advanced to the final after a 7-2 win over Bowdoin on the previous day. Middlebury ends the season with a school-record 16 wins, five more than the previous record of 11 held in each of the last three seasons.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

4/27/04 - The Middlebury College women's tennis team will make its second consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Tennis Tournaments this weekend. The Panthers will travel to Amherst to take on Bowdoin in an NCAA Northeast Regional match-up.

April 24, 2004

4/24/04 - The Panther women's tennis team ended its regular season with a 7-2 loss at Bowdoin. Middlebury will look for an NCAA Tournament bid when the selections are announced on Monday.

4/18/04 - The Middlebury College women's tennis team finished in a fifth place tie at the NESCAC Championships hosted by Amherst last weekend. The Panthers did capture some impressive individual awards as first-year player Amy Roche (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) was named the NESCAC Rookie of the Year, while senior Sandy Spring (Westport, N.Y.) was named the Senior Sportswoman of the Year. First-year player Claire Smyser (Houston, Texas) earned second-team All-NESCAC honors with her solid performance. 4/13/04 - Middlebury had little trouble in Burlington as they defeated the University of Vermont, 7-0. The Panthers convincingly won all three doubles matches, while earning straight set wins in all six singles matches.

4/11/04 - The Panther women's tennis team defeated Connecticut College 8-1 before falling 5-4 to Amherst on Sunday. Middlebury improves its record to 14-2 on the season.

4/4/04 - The Panther women's tennis team had a busy weekend as eight teams competed in the Middlebury Invitational Tournament. The Panthers won two of six brackets, while Tufts won the other four.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

3/27/04 - The Panther women's tennis team went 5-0 during their spring break trip to the <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Carolinas. The Panthers defeated Colby 7-2, Carleton 8-1, Barton 7-2, St. Andrews 9-0 and Mt. Olive 5-0 in a shortened match.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
