Simms Named Coach Of The Year

5/5/04 - Middlebury's women's tennis coach Nate Simms has been named the ITA Northeast Regional Coach of the Year. Simms led the team to its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance this spring, advancing his team to the Regional Final before being eliminated. This season's squad set a school record for wins with 16, to go against just four losses. He has earned a career record of 49-18 in his four years as head coach of the women's tennis program.

Simms has taught at numerous tennis clubs and camps in the Albany, New York area. For the past 10 summers, he has worked for 15-Love, a program that gives free tennis lessons to inner-city youth. He concurrently directs a USTA Local Excellence Training Center in New York.

A 1992 graduate of Middlebury, Simms played four years for the Panther varsity squad. He continues to play tournaments and is currently ranked in men's singles and doubles in the USTA's Eastern section.
