Panthers Headed To NCAA Quarterfinals

5/11/05 - For the first time in school history, the <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Middlebury College women's tennis team has advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals. The Panthers earned the right after a convincing 5-0 win over Williams in an NCAA Regional Final in Middlebury. The Panthers will take on Gustavus Adolphus in a quarterfinal match on Wednesday, May 18th at 9:30 a.m. at Kalamazoo College in Michigan. The Panthers enter the tournament with a 14-2 overall record and 4-1 record in NCAA play over the past three seasons.

Middlebury's line-up for the championship weekend is expected to be: #1 Amy Roche, #2, Jackie Ross, #3 Amanda Berck, #4 Claire Smyser, #5 Emily Holick and #6 Amy Berkman. In doubles play, Ross/Smyser are in the #1 slot, Berck/Roche are #2, while Holick and Maren Messing play at #3.

In individual competition, Roche has qualified in singles play and will begin action on Saturday, May 21st. Claire Smyser and Jackie Ross will play in the NCAA doubles championship.
