Women's Tennis Finishes Third At NESCAC's

5/1/05 - The Panther women's tennis team hosted the 2005 NESCAC Championships this weekend on campus. Middlebury placed third overall, behind Amherst and Tufts. Sophomore Amy Roche (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) won the prized "A" singles bracket on the weekend, winning five matches en route to the title. Roche cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win in the semifinals, before a 7-5, 6-0 win in the championship match.
In the "B" flight, Sophomore Emily Holick (<?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" />Sudbury, Mass.) advanced to the semifinals before falling 6-1, 6-1 to the eventual champion. First-year player Amy Berkman (Shelburne, Vt.) advanced to the quarterfinals of flight "C", before falling 6-0, 6-0. In doubles action, both Middlebury duos were eliminated in the semifinals. Roche and first-year player Amanda Berck (Roslyn, N.Y.) fell 8-6 in the "B" semi's, while sophomores Jackie Ross (Ipswich, Mass.) and Claire Smyser (Houston, Texas) were eliminated 8-2 in the "A" flight.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" />
