Women's Tennis Opens With Two Wins

9/18/05 - The <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Middlebury College women's tennis team opened up its 2005 season with convincing 9-0 wins over Skidmore and Bates. The Panthers cruised to 12 straight-set wins in singles action, while giving up just 13 doubles points.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Winning both of their singles matches over the week were junior Amy Roche (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.), sophomore Amy Berkman (Shelburne, Vt.) and first-year players Elizabeth Emery (McLean, Va.), Chandra Kurien (Fairfield, Conn.) and Elizabeth Stone (Cohasset, Mass.). Also winning singles matches were sophomore Amanda Berck (Roslyn, N.Y.) vs. Skidmore and junior Emily Holick (Sudbury, Mass.) vs. Bates.

In doubles action, Roche/Emery, Berck/Holick, along with senior Maren Messing (New York, N.Y.) and first-year player Clare Burke (Summit, N.J.), each won a pair of matches.
