Women's Tennis Advances To NCAA Regional Final

The Middlebury women's tennis team swept Vassar 5-0 in second-round NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament play on Saturday at Bowdoin College. With the victory, the Panthers (12-4) advance to play in the regional final on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against host Bowdoin College.
Behind a strong performance by NESCAC Player of the Year Amy Roche and second-team honoree Claire Smyser at #1 (8-5), the Panthers swept the doubles matches in convincing fashion. Emily Holick/Clare Burke (8-4 at #2) and Elizabeth Stone/Elizabeth Emory (8-6 at #3). Holick won her #5 singles match over Anna Will of Vassar, 6-1, 6-1 before Burke clinched the victory with a win at #6 over Alexis Jacobson, 6-3, 6-3.
Vassar, the Liberty League champions, close out their season with a record of 16-6. Middlebury and Bowdoin have already played once this season, with the Polar Bears taking a 7-2 victory on April 14.
